When I first read the headline I thought it was about the shooting yesterday in Clear Lake, but this is another incident.
HOUSTON (KTRK) --
A suspect is on the run after fatally shooting a former co-worker in northeast Houston and then taking off in a company truck, police say.
According to investigators, Rodney Jackson, 49, was laid off from Val-Fit on Mesa today. Police say he then got a gun and shot a co-worker multiple times, killing him.
Jackson is a black male, standing around 6 feet tall and weighing around 300 pounds. He's believed to be in a white 2012 Ford F-350 flatbed truck with license plate BN81425.
At this point, we don't know the identity of the victim.

Re: Man Fatally Shoots Former Co-Worker
I know this company and some of the employees. They are one of our suppliers, and their sales manager used to work for me.
The person shot is the Operations Manager. The suspect worked in the warehouse. The manager had just moved here from Atlanta. I haven't been able to talk to my friends there yet. One texted me and said he was OK but couldn't talk. Maybe because they are all being interviewed as part of the investigation??
This hit very close to home.

I am glad that your friend is okay. Companies don't like to publicize things like this.PaJ wrote:I know this company and some of the employees. They are one of our suppliers, and their sales manager used to work for me.

An update to the story, 15 hours after the shooting the man turned himself in to Fort Stockton police.
The story also gave the name of the man who was murdered.

Really very sad.
A man is transferred to a new location far from home. He get the tough job of laying off a worker at the new location.
He is shot and killed the next day by the same man.
No happy ending.

Prayer for the victim's family and friends. Homicide is a leading cause of workplace fatalities. I was personally involved in several terminations at the refinery where I worked. Being a union plant our process involved meeting and review with the employee and a union representative prior to any decision whether or not to terminate. They knew if we called them to come to the plant it was bad news. We always worried about the possibility of violence when we were terminating an employee and considered ceasing that practice, but the company was still doing it that way when I retired in 2006.
EDIT: I just saw the coverage on Fox News and the reporter stated police found 25 9mm casings at the scene. This was a an extremely vicious shooting, apparently.

Back in 2007 [although it doesn't seem that long ago to me] there was an incident where a man was killed at NASA/JSC after giving a poor performance review to one of his employees.
After that happened, the company I worked for hired an armed security guard who was conspicuously stationed in the lobby every time they had a lay off.

Within the last year or so, a Pizza Hut management man met a bad apple that was getting fired,
and the BG pulled a pistol and shot him to death with multiple rounds in the back.
The BG then just sat down and waited for Plano PD to arrest him. Pretty crazy.
Even in "safe" office environments where "professionals" work, anyone can flip out when getting fired.
Anyone who works in an office should quietly carry some small pistol just in case this happens.
Even a fish wouldn't get in trouble if he kept his mouth shut, so don't share your gun strategy with others,
since in most offices it's against policy to carry.
Some years a New Hampshire man with a NH CHL was shot to death in his office in Wakefield, Mass.
He lived in NH but worked in "anti" Mass, so he was disarmed at work. Had he worked in NH, he could
have defended himself with his handgun. Sheesh.
