Personal legal representation

Re: Personal legal representation
I have prepaid legal service which covers me for other things like wills and real estate transactions, traffic issues, on top of some criminal offense representation. I pay very little for it through our group policy from my employer.
Bottom line, make sure you know what you are paying for and the support you will receive when paying for any type of service. Read the fine print, list out some questions you want to know the answers to like how many firearms related cases have you represented and how many won, etc. It is just like any insurance policy, you need to make sure it does what you need it to do if you ever need it.

Re: Personal legal representation
Best plan is to expect a few days in jail and be sure your phone call goes to a trusted friend with access to cash and willingness to find you a lawyer and maybe make bail if it is reasonable. Finding the right lawyer takes some leg work and not something you can do very far in advance.
You may have the last word.

Re: Personal legal representation
As promised I contacted [Pre-paid legal service], and I told them about our conversation. They said please contact them though their website. All the attorneys names and contact information is there for you. Including the president of [pre-paid legal]. I weary that you'll never get the answer you are looking for and may just want to "abuse" them. If you are looking for answers that will help make up your mind that this could be a helpful service to some people then call them. Let us know what you find.Richbirdhunter wrote:I'll check into it on Monday when the office is open. Were you given the option of a one on one interview with the lawyer who would be handling your case or do they have a clue who would be handling your case. Are they the Uber company of lawyers? Avoid [pre-paid legal] like the plague
Have you met the lawyer/s that would be defending you? Do you know how many criminal cases they have won/lost? Have you had the opportunity to shake that lawyers hand and look into his eyes and say "this is the guy I want to trust with my freedom"? If not, don't walk away - run!
This should be a simple request:
A list of attorneys in the pool
Win/loss record of each attorney
Average out of pocket expense for clients who have gone to court
Public records of the cases they have tried in court
Thanks for the talk, I enjoyed it.

So show me where you have a right to fire your attorney and hire a different one having both covered by your plan is in your paperwork?Richbirdhunter wrote: I've never ask to meet with them so that fail is on me. I'm 100% sure you can fire the attorney. My guess is that the swap is on your own dime.
I absolutely stand to be corrected... But otherwise, you're trusting a commissioned sales person.
Note, I have ZERO experience with them, other than having the pitch injected into my CHL class. They may be providing the best defense money can buy for all I know, but in my opinion, it doesn't pass the smell test and there were differences in the fine print and the way it was presented.

Re: Personal legal representation
So, you called for more info and was referred to their website? Does that instill confidence?

The information was for someone else. It was the proper response from Texas shieldmojo84 wrote:So, you called for more info and was referred to their website? Does that instill confidence?

I haven't seen anyone put up the information from their personal attorney that you are asking of Texas Shield. Put up so information, show us the right way to do it.

I did not ask you to post any of that information, I simply asked if they had provided that information to you. Based on your response, the answer seems obvious.Richbirdhunter wrote:I haven't seen anyone put up the information from their personal attorney that you are asking of Texas Shield. When do you plan on calling/emailing them? It seems to me if you go the Texas Sheild website and email the president your questions this can all be answered. Either they are as bad you say or they're not. There's no sense in going through all of this if you won't take it across the finish line.
For perspective if you could post your questions to Texas Sheild along with their answers and the same questions to your attorney along with his answers.
It's right and fair that you finish this.

Re: Personal legal representation
Why would I contact them? I'm not the one considering their services. You asked why I would avoid them and I told you why. The questions I suggested you ask are questions anyone considering legal representation should be asking and those questions should be answered without hesitation. No one asked you to post their responses, only if they answered the questions. Many members of this forum that were potential customers have attempted to obtain this information without success. if you are satisfied with the information you have received from them and you are a happy customer then my opinion about them shouldn't matter.Richbirdhunter wrote:jmra wrote:I did not ask you to post any of that information, I simply asked if they had provided that information to you. I'm curious, every time this comes up and a [pre-paid legal] customer calls [pre-paid legal] to ask these questions they all come back challenging others to post the answers to these questions from their own attorney even though no one has actually asked that the answers they received from [pre-paid legal] be posted. It makes me wonder if [pre-paid legal] is the one prompting people to make that request in order to avoid answering the questions.

If you are curious then call them, here is the phone number 877-448-6839. I don't understand why you won't get the information you want directly from them, I also don't understand why you won't post your personal attorneys responses to the same questions.jmra wrote:Why would I contact them? Re: Personal legal representation
Um, maybe I am reading deficient but jmra never asked for that information from [pre-paid legal], that I can see. He has said he doesn't want that information from them, so why would he call and get information he doesn't want? Why would he post the information from his personal attorney? He once again never asked anyone to post the information from [pre-paid legal] or from anyone's personal attorney. He told you the questions he asked attorneys when he went shopping for one, and suggested that you should ask the same from [pre-paid legal]. He said if you managed to get that information from them to let us all know that you were able to get it, not that you post the information itself. You keep posting like you think jmra wants to do business with [pre-paid legal]; from what I can gather from his posts he has no desire to do that.Richbirdhunter wrote:If you are curious then call them, here is the phone number 877-448-6839. He wanted answers, why do the work for him. He has a poor impression of [pre-paid legal] that seems to be based more in opinion then in fact.Jago668 wrote:Um, maybe I am reading deficient but jmra never asked for that information from [pre-paid legal], that I can see. Re: Personal legal representation
I put prepaid self-defense legal plans in the same category as the extended warranty you get offered at the cash register when you buy anything these days.
