Re: ammo on sale
It also seems to be getting better inside the metroplex, as well.
During the week, Cabelas had 50 and 100-round boxes of CCI 22LR in various types pretty much all through the week. Over the weekend, they still had a fair amount of standard velocity CCI 22LR in 50-round boxes, and that's something I haven't seen in a while (the over-the-weekend availability).
On Sunday, visited Gander Mountain in Lake Worth for the first time. Nice store, but oh those prices were a bit steeper than Cabellas. An example, I purchased a Calwell Dual-Track Lead Sled at Cabellas for $199.99 regular price on Friday. Gander Mountain had the same model for $249.99, regular price. And, I was looking at one of Gander Moutain's Red-Tagged Crickett 22LR single-shots for my granddaughter (in pink, of course!) The Red-Tag price was 152.19 for the plastic stock, $161.99 for the wood stock. Didn't see them at Cabellas, but Bud's has them regular priced at $118.
Gander did have bulk 22LR, the Federal 325 standard velocity was $22.99/box limit two boxes. Had to grab a couple of boxes at that price.

Re: ammo on sale
Big 5 in Lubbock had Winchester super X for $59.00 for 500 in limited edition wooden box!! whoa
I was at a big outdoor chain here in Lubbock, won't say any names, looking to purchase a 22 rifle. I asked if they had any 22LR in stock they said no sold out this morning. I decided to buy an HK MP5 SD 22 that I had been wanting for a while, it was on sale. I asked the guy selling the gun if they had 22 ammo he came back with 3 types of bulk packs for me to choose from!! CCI minimag, federal bulk pack and limited edition CCI minimags! I've been told that they save ammo for people who buy a new 22 caliber gun so maybe there is some truth to it...

Re: ammo on sale
I observed the same practice regarding 223 REM and 9mm in 2013. I finally decided to purchase my first pistol (9mm) in February that year, and turned down the gun store's offer to purchase ammunition at the same time. I hadn't paid any attention to that point to the ammo situation, and was in for a rude shock. I've been KEENLY aware of the situation since then...
I had an interesting interaction yesterday at a local smiling blue retailer: I went in to stock up on ZQI 7.62x51 for my incoming 308 Garand (can't.wait.), and the clerk asked, before I said what I wanted, "We've got some 325 round boxes of Federal Auto Match 22lr, would you like a box? I just took over this area, and I hear that the managers used to hide it." Could have knocked me over with a feather...and, yes, I bought a box.

Re: ammo on sale
Last Thursday the Buda Cabelas had 325 and 500 round boxes of 22 LR...and quite a lot of both. Then on Friday I was in a local Walmart and checked the ammo counter, not really expecting to find any 22 since I haven't see any at this particular Walmart for going on two years...and I was stunned to see a 1,000 round box of Winchester M-22 just sitting on the shelf all by its lonesome. I had to take it home where it could be with friends.

Re: ammo on sale
Bass Pro opened a new location in Round Rock next to the outlet mall on Wed.
I figured if I got there when they first opened, I might have a chance at finding some 22lr. Not only did they have many boxes of 22, but a variety to choose from. 2 box limit, got 2 Federal 525 rnds.
Repeated the same on Thurs.
Today (Fri) went in the AM for a free giveaway, and even though I am out of ammo $ to spend, I checked to see if they restocked. They had even more than before, including a pallet of those 1400rnd buckets. I can tell you it was strangely difficult to walk away from all that without any today and I lingered around enough to take some snapshots.
Had to take some pics and share the word with you guys, first time I even uploaded any pics to the forum I think.
I couldn't justify opening a new thread so added here. I guess at the going prices at most places, this is considered ammo sales.
Also I just realized today, there was no sales tax on any of my ammo, which is all I bought. I found out today they were having a tax glitch on some items.
Anyway, if you are in the area...
Some prices (by memory not exact)
Fed 525rnd - $24
Fed 500rnd - $23
Fed match 325rnd - $19
Many other Remington and Winchester choices, boxes of qty 222 or 333 whatever it is.
1 item limits on:
Buckets 1400rnd - $75
CCI stinger HP (I think) 900rnds ~ $102
CCI round nose (I think) 1600rnds - $109

Re: ammo on sale
Wow, I haven't seen that much stock of 22LR in years!! Too bad I am out of state for several months. There is none to be had in Iowa right now.

Re: ammo on sale
at $0.10 per rd, it is still 3X more expensive than 2008 prices. I am sorry, I am not interested in 22LR.
