Re: CHL & Your Church
I am blessed at my church every Sunday and Wednesday. I look forward to going. Been attending for several years. I have never once spoken with anyone about my chl or that I carry everywhere it is legal. I carry at church since it isn't posted. I don't see any need to discuss my carrying with a pastor or anyone for that matter. I see no value it.

I agree, it may not have had much value, but i was taught to respect my elders.Texas_Blaze wrote:I am blessed at my church every Sunday and Wednesday. I look forward to going. That very much so included the elders of my church. But i understand your perspective.

Re: CHL & Your Church
I find "no ask, no tell" is the best firearm policy in the world.
I am an independent insurance agent, so I am out and about in people's homes, senior centers, Starbuck's, and about any other place that people might want to meet me. I carry a G17 in a Raven Phantom on a velcro inner belt. Works great with a tucked in polo, and no one looks at me hard enough to notice, and I don't say a single thing about it.
At church, all of our friends know that the wife and I carry, but I don't talk about it while at church.

I'd say make sure you inform your pastor of that. Also, at the risk of sounding cynical, if you tithe, that could affect the effect that statement will have on your pastor.safety1 wrote:... I'd rather be asked to leave the church than leave myself and family unprotected...
Said truth, but truth it is.
Re: CHL & Your Church
I know this is late but wanted to throw this in...concealed means concealed. If it's not posted, carry on.
I don't like talking politics with people I'm not close to, and I don't like talking guns with people I'm not close to. If you're close with your pastor, you probably know where he stands. If it's a big church you might not have a close relationship with your pastor. I go to a VERY big church. I know my pastor and am close to several other staff people, but I would NEVER bring up this topic with any of them. It's none of their business.
YMMV

You don't feel that you are prohibited in any way from carrying which allows you to protect yourself and your family which of course is a good thing.safety1 wrote:I agree, i won't change his opinion, just as he won't change mine. Let sleeping dogs lie..right?
I do not feel his comment of not feeling it necessary was by any means a directive to me to not carry.
I would love to see a more proactive approach, considering that may not happen. I'll keep my intentions
to myself. I feel like I'm where i need to be and my family feels the same. The urge to educate and
spread the importance of this issue makes me want to enlighten him. What if I was not in attendance?
What do you hope to accomplish beyond members with a CHL being able to carry? Unfortunately current law does not allow for CHLs to form an armed security team without being licensed through the state. So there's no need to pursue that line of conversation. So if you and the other members can legally carry, what is the goal still to be achieved?

I agree! Educations of the facts, but you are right not at the expense of me loosing my right.jmra wrote:You don't feel that you are prohibited in any way from carrying which allows you to protect yourself and your family which of course is a good thing.safety1 wrote:I agree, i won't change his opinion, just as he won't change mine. Thank you for your opinion pastor, see you Sunday morning

Re: CHL & Your Church
The last few Sundays, after church, the girls keep asking if Open Carry is in effect yet because they want to show each other something or another. I take spare holsters I don't use and ammo I mark "RANGE USE ONLY" to new CHLs at church so they can't use cost of ammo as an excuse to not practice.
Churches aren't posted, half the congregation would change churches if anyone stuck a big sign out front. Some Preachers carry that visit our church, the current pastor doesn't, half the deacons have CHLs, more and more of the married ladies do.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
"not feeling it necessary"
Most people without a fire extinguisher don't feel one is necessary.... Usually, they are correct.
Some areas are at higher risk for fire, and those areas often are required to have Fire extinguishers, but every house has a kitchen and CAN have a fire, so the real question is not "is it necessary?" but the better question is "why not?" (have a fire extinguisher)
.
Some Churches are at a higher risk of needing defense depending on location, etc but every church has a risk. Church Shootings do not include every violent act at churches, but it's a place to start https://www.google.com/search?q=list+of ... 8&oe=utf-8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
List of shootings stabbings suicide and other deadly force incidents at church
http://www.carlchinn.com/Deadly_Force_Incidents.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Again, the question should not be "is it necessary?" It probably isn't ... but rather the better question should be ... why not? (carry protection from potential violence)
Is it necessary that I carry my gun fishing? probably not ... but why not? Years ago a guy fishing was shot and killed at a County park... ... so there's that ... So ... Why not?
Peace Be still, be quiet, mind my own business, and carry. per my understanding of 1 Thessalonians 4:11

No one "asks" ... there is no 30.06 sign. I never walked into a Wal-Mart and asked if it was "OK" to protect myself & my family.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 http://biblehub.com/1_thessalonians/4-11.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
Job 34:29 (Not in context, but accurate and true statement, concealed is concealed)
When He keeps quiet, who then can condemn?...

Re: CHL & Your Church
Of those that have replyed here, do you currently know of any churches that do post 30.06.
Or make notice via verbal or written policy?

Not mine; we're at the other end of the spectrum. Our church held a CHL class, that's where I got mine.safety1 wrote:Of those that have replyed here, do you currently know of any churches that do post 30.06.

I think someone here said their church was posted, but I haven't come across any myself.safety1 wrote:Of those that have replyed here, do you currently know of any churches that do post 30.06.

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Re: CHL & Your Church
If you are trying to educate your pastor, Carl Chinn's book "Evil Invades Sanctuary" is a great resource. Also his website http://www.carlchinn.com. If your church doesn't have a safety program, these resources will help you understand why you need one and how to get started.safety1 wrote:I agree!
