It happened in front of a ruth chris steak house in the harbor area of baltimore. I was attending a security conference sponsored by the NSA.

Oh, the irony... beaten and robbed at a "security conference" in "the good part" of "gun-free Maryland".

I don't think you mentioned it, but I'm sure you learned another very important lesson that day: situational awareness. Even in gun-friendly Texas, even if you had your CHL, and were carrying the rig you'd just won an IDPA match with earlier in the day, it wouldn't help much if your first awareness of the BGs was a pipe upside the ol' noggin.

I'm glad you've recovered, and I'm glad you're adopting a healthy approach to personal security. Good luck with your journey.

While Sara has a decidedly different view, and having been around my gun-toting donkey for the last year, I think she has a VERY well rounded perspective. Whereas, most of you self-proclaimed "gun nuts" have only the perspective that gun, in and of itself, can keep you safe.

I'm pretty sure Sara can find her middle ground, find her comfort zone, with or without a hand cannon, and be just as fine as the rest of us.

I've made my personal (and that's the key word here) choice that I'd rather be armed.

I was at the AMC@GMM at 10 pm this weekend and did not see the sign on the wall. Its pretty hard to see. I imagine that at night the sign on the wall is invisible.

I did see the GB sign.



I have noticed that the PD presence at the Malls and Theaters has gone down quite a bit the last few weeks. Summer vacations?

Eventually there will be a Tort case against those who put up the 30.06 signs. Should be interesting.

Good news and bad news.

I drove out to Grapevine Mills. My wife's new camera did not store the pics.

Regarding the parking lots. There are no signs posted about firearms. I checked every entrance to mall property from a public street. I checked the parking lots, looking at the light poles and signs.

The doors themselves are not posted; however, to the side, on a wall perpendicular to the doors is a HUGE 30.06 compliant sign. It is a blue background with white letters.

You can take your handgun in your vehicle, but not within the mall.

well scratch Katy Mills off my shopping list. I refuse to patronize any business that does not trust me with a gun. Is there a list/letter somewhere that has been started to make the mall folks aware losing customers?

Ummm . . . actually, I don't see this at all. It's my opinion that most posters regard a gun as just another piece of safety equipment that improves your odds should you be attacked, and needs to be complemented with situational awareness and avoidance of certain risky behavior - it's not a magic talisman that confers invulnerablity on the one who wields it any more than seat belts alone completely protect you against injuries involving a motor vehicle.
