What didn't happen

Starting several yrs ago I began teaching Mom & Wife that it is alright to be rude to men that approach ladies on a parking lot.
Wed evening we were headed to church & she says, Well, what you taught me paid off yesterday evening.
OK what paid off.
Early afternoon she left the Brookshire Brothers store in the "good part of town" & being observant she saw that the parking space by her car was empty & the next one had a car w/ a man sitting in it.
As she put her groceries in the trunk he steps out & says Lady, can I ask you a question.
Mom - LOUDLY, No I dont know you & we have nothing to talk about.
Man - Well I just need a couple of $s for some gas. (that would be enough to get him all the way to the loop at todays prices.)
Mom - LOUDLY I dont have any money for you, go ask a man for help.
She put the trunk down & went back inside to report it & several in the parking lot are watching now.
Was she armed? You bet. Can she shoot? 247 last renewal. :fire
Was she able to confidently tend to an unwanted panhandler? Yep.
She, 76yr old widow woman, went home & went to sleep comfortable & never said to herself, "I cant believe I let him have that money."
Ladies, awareness & verbal assertiveness are the tools God will use to make some things not happen.

Your mom handled that very well.
Her score of 247 said she could have likely taken care of herself if she needed to, but her sharp mind kept it from getting that far.

We're often taught that, as Christians, we need to be polite and giving. This can get us killed if we aren't careful.

Your mom had the wisdom to know that a man had no business approaching a lone, elderly woman, and she knew he was up to no good.

Send your mom a high-five for me.

"If a man breaks in your house, he ain't there for iced tea." Mom & Dad.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

My wife had a similar encounter a few weeks back. Her truck was almost out of gas and she went to fill it up in the evening, so shat she wouldn't have to rush in the morning on the way to work.

She had started pumping gas when she noticed a man loitering around, and started thinking about what she would do if he approached her. She was still thinking about what to do when the man approached, saying :"Excuse me mam..."

Since she had been so desperately thinking about what to do, she never did get to point of deciding on a plan, so when the man spoke she just yelled out "LEAVE ME ALONE!"

That did the trick. The man took several steps back, holding his hand up in front of his face, saying "OK, OK..." and then he quickly disappeared.

That will work too.
Men needing help need to ask a man not a woman alone.
There is no reason to approach a lone woman w/ a need.
Too many telephones & willing men to help a lagitamate need.
Tell her GOOD JOB.

This situation, dealing with the set-up, is the most overlooked part of self defense. Great job!

Both these situations highlight what I tell ladies all the time. In order to be prepared to handle a situation it is important to have run scenarios over in your mind. So you are preprogrammed if the need arises.

Well done everyone.
