Knife Bills (HB 905 & HB 3884) in Jeopardy

The Senate doesn't follow the regular order of business. Most likely, this bill will be heard on the Local & Uncontested Calendar.

I agree, a bit of good news on an otherwise depressing evening.

Back in Sep or Oct, when I suggested Straus be defeated in the general election by a Democrat (another Republican has no chance in that San Antonio district), TAM warned me not to trust a Democrat, ever! I guess TAM should have shared a similar warning with Dan Patrick...about RINO's.

Unfortunately, HB 3884 (decriminalization of "illegal" knives) was killed after Senator Whitmire double-crossed us. He agreed to sponsor HB 3884 and hear it in his committee, in order to get one of his own bills out of the author's (Rep. Harold Dutton) committee.

Then, after passing the bill out of committee (on unanimous vote) and recommending it for the Local and Uncontested Calendar, he pulled it down.

Yes, it does, and yes they are.

Reading the bill, it also mentions firearms and ammo. It would seem to me then that the San Antonio local ordinance prohibiting loaded long arms in your vehicle is truly void. It was clearly against state law but SAPD would say that they would use the local ordinance pretty recently.

This would seem to truly short circuit this.

The knife provision in SA was ridiculous. You see such knives all over the place and sold everywhere.

That is existing language that has existed in the Texas Local Government Code since 1985. That San Antonio ordinance has been void for thirty years.
