The bill passed the senate, I think the house has an open carry bill in committee. At any rate I think the house hasn't acted on it yet.

It's passed the Senate as mentioned above, still a LONG way to go in the House before it would hit the Gov's desk.

Open Carry and Campus Carry have passed through the Senate.

They still need to pass out of House committee and through the House before Abbot can sign them into law.

Open Carry will go into effect Jan 1, 2016 if the House bill gets amended like the Senate bill did - if passed by the House and signed by the Governor.

Campus Carry will go into effect Sept 1, 2015 unless amended - if passed by the House and signed by the Govenor

mr1337: your post answers a lot of my questions. Let's hope it doesn't get amended. I don't plan to open carry _ but I won't have to be so worried about my weapon being Sean as much or printiing. Thanks.

Why January 1 and not September 1? I figured this would be one that would be signed and effective immediately.

Lot of logistics to sort out for licensed open carry.

Campus Carry is an expansion of existing licensing system.

I believe D.P.S. requested more time. Not sure why but I think it has to do with renewal classes for CHL instructors. I don't think they can renew until after the Legislative session is over so they will be teaching current information! :tiphat:

It will have to get amended if we want it to sail smoothly. It will get the amendment to start on Jan 1, no doubt. That's only 4 months behind the original date. That's not so long to wait.

HB910 (the House licensed open carry bill) has passed favorably out of committee. We'll just need to get it through calendars committee and onto the floor. I'm pretty sure it already has the votes to pass.
Keep calm and carry.
