Requirements for Texas CHL
I am yet another Brit who has relocated to the best part of the world and hold a Perminent Resident's card. I have taken a CHL test and would now like to apply for the licence but the DPS qualifications say I need to show 5 years worth of addresses. Does this mean I need to reside in Texas for 5 years before applying?

Re: Requirements for Texas CHL
I am no expert, but I think it's six month for a resident's license. From 411.172:
Good luck, and be safe.
There are also non-resident licenses, which you might be able to get right away.(1) is a legal resident of this state for the six-month period preceding the date
of application under this subchapter or is otherwise eligible for a license under
Section 411.173(a);
Good luck, and be safe.

You do not have to live in Texas 5 years, but need to show the locations you have lived over the past 5 years. If you were in the UK prior to coming here, then list your legal addresses there. Make sure not to leave any gaps in employment or address dates.

There is no longer a 6 month residency requirement. If you establish residency and change your driver license over you can then get your CHL.treadlightly wrote:I am no expert, but I think it's six month for a resident's license. From 411.172:

Thanks, Keith - sure wish https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetf ... CHL-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; was kept up to date, but I don't think I want to complain too much.
