I know. Thats what I wrote. I am opposed to the government requiring private businesses to maintain files that amount to registration. ;)TC-TX wrote:Actually - the 4473 never leaves the FFL files (unless a firearm has been used in a crime and a copy has been requested by the BATFE) NOR is the sale ever recorded with the BATFE at any time.I am opposed to government registration as it is, and the 4473 and FFL's requirement to keep those records is registration.

This cracks me up. I bought a C&R rifle off of a guy on one of the boards, and he asked me about how to go about shipping it. I realized I had never sold a gun before, much less shipped one, lolllwatson wrote:I thought about this for a few minutes, and then realized I have NEVER sold a gun. I have let a few be adopted into good homes, but I have never SOLD one. Why, that would be just like selling one of the kids.
Hmm... wonder how much I could get for one of them kids?

I'm in the same boat. I've saved all my shipping boxes, but I've never shipped a rifle. I sold three of a Turkish Mauser 5-fer, but I bought the five with the intent of culling three. That was face to face in my own house, with a coworker. I later traded a fourth one away to get another C&R rifle. And, I've agreed to sell a mint MAS 36-51 to a different coworker, but we haven't gone through with the deal yet.zedsdead wrote:This cracks me up. Oh, and since we're talking C&R... when a C&R FFL sells a C&R firearm, he must check the buyer's ID, and record the information in his bound book. There's no 4473 or NICS, but it is a purchase from an FFL.

I've done this for every swap. I also stick to board members that are established, or people I know decently well or better.Jacob Staff wrote:Why not flash CHL's at each other? No need to write anything down.

So far that's worked for me. I've only sold / traded one gun to someone That I didn't know personally. The individual was a really class guy. We flashed CHL's and deal was done.gigag04 wrote:I've done this for every swap. If in reference to me, then I agree :)dws1117 wrote:So far that's worked for me. I've only sold / traded one gun to someone That I didn't know personally. The individual was a really class guy. Re: Selling a Used Gun
This is true unless the FFL goes out of business. Then his records (bound book of 4473's) must be turned in to the BATFE. To the untrained eye, it would look like they are basically having the FFL's maintain their records for them until (or if) they need them. This saves them alot of file work.TC-TX wrote:Actually - the 4473 never leaves the FFL files (unless a firearm has been used in a crime and a copy has been requested by the BATFE) NOR is the sale ever recorded with the BATFE at any time.I am opposed to government registration as it is, and the 4473 and FFL's requirement to keep those records is registration.

True, but for practical purposes, those records are lost forever without having been indexed or scanned into a database. I imagine a "raiders of the lost ark" kind of warehouse filled with boxes of records. I've never heard that the ATF has the kind of manpower or ability to keep the records up.rodnocker1 wrote:This is true unless the FFL goes out of business.
