opinion on Tarus Pt709 slim 9mm

Looking for a good concealment gun. Don't really want to carry my smith&Wesson sigma 9mm. I've heard that the pt709 Slim is a great gun and a horrible gun because its made by Tarus. So I need some more info on the gun before I get it. Thanks y'al .

I looked at it for a friend. As far as I'm concerned the trigger is totally unacceptable. Don't know your budget, but the CM9 would be a much better option.

What was wrong with the trigger? I haven't got the chance to handle one. Just seen videos on YouTube. I was thinking about the baby glock gen 4 or the m&p sheild. I got my CHL 2 weeks ago.

I shot one at my LGS and I left feeling glad I shot it first. I hated the trigger! Yes it's cheap but you get what you pay for. If you want something cheaper but more reliable and just a nicer gun Imo get a bersa bp9. Buds has them for 300 and they are much nicer and have a better trigger than the slim

I carry one most days.

Better fit to my hand than many of the CC 9mm's, a little practice and you don't notice the trigger, and I prefer to have a manual safety that goes down to go off safe. At this point I've shot around 800 rounds through mine and few problems. I did have one bad magazine that caused some issues and an ammo lot that had lots of OAL variance that wasn't reliable (reloads). YMMV.

The sigma I shoot now had a 8lbs trigger pull. I replaced a spring in it and its now about 6.5lbs. I'm pretty used to a hard trigger. I figured it would be good to have a hard trigger for a concelment gun. I wonder if there could be a spring I could get to help it some.

Can't go wrong with the Glock 26. It is thicker than than the single stacks but has a much better trigger and is extremely reliable. If you really want a single stack 9, in about the same price range as the Glock you can pick up an XDs.

Agree, the CM9 is a great option. Kahr makes a quality product.

I have both the 709 and 740. Great CC pistol IMO. No problems for 3 yrs. Nothing wrong with the trigger that a bit of practice won't resolve. Biggest strike against them is the lack of spare magazines for both Slims. If you get one, be sure it comes with two magazines - not so critical for carry, but handy for range time. I have nine mags for each Slim.

I've had one for several years and have about 600rds through it or so. I genuinely like it although the trigger is unusual. Once you get used to it it is a great shooter especially for the price. Magazines are difficult to track down but Midway gets them in frequently enough. Mine shot consistently low but the adjustable sights took care of that.

I'm yet to have a failure with this gun of any kind that isn't ammo related. It runs everything I put through it except for the occasional really hard Russian primer.

Of course people will tell you to get a Glock whatever instead but if you like the Slim and it meets your budget I say give it a whirl. I'm glad I gave it a chance. I got it, ammo, and two holsters for the price of a Glock.

It does conceal remarkably well.
