Glock 23

I shot a 23 at the range, because I was thinking of buying a 32, but I didn't really like the characteristics of the gun. I couldn't quite put my finger on it(or maybe that was it)... I think that I just don't like compact guns.

Can't go wrong with a Glock 23 (or really any model of Glock for that matter). I've owned the 23, 19 (my first Glock), 27 (owned this one for over 10 years before I sold it to switch to 1911's), and a 22. Nothing wrong with the .40 S&W caliber either but I think modern 9mm design has equalized things and I'm looking into getting a 19 now just to have a cheaper caliber option available to me alongside the .45 ACP.

Nothing wrong with the 23 but as someone who owns a 27 I wouldn't buy the .40 S&W again. I think Gigag04 is right. The 9mm is cheaper, better follow up shots, less recoil. I plan on selling my 27 and getting a 26 or 19 soon. Nothing wrong with the .40 but I have a .45acp for the slow and heavy and if I want to make a statement out comes the 20. It just doesn't do anything better then the 9mm imo and I just happened to buy the .40S&W before the 10mm. The 10mm can do everything and more then the .40S&W. Makes my 27 obsolete.

There's a reason that the Glock 23 is the most-issued sidearm for the majority of LEO's throughout the USA.....

....other than that, it's a good, reliable gun in a potent caliber. It's a good choice.

I'm not sure on the 23 being number one but don't have any specs. The Glock 22 IMO is issued more then the 23 as it is the full size counterpart. and the Glock 17 (9mm) is also very popular. All the contracting gigs I looked into required qual with a G17. We had the g22's issued in SO CAL and they worked hence the reason I stuck with a Glock here in Texas.

I have both the G17 & G22 and have no problem with concealment with a high rise OWB holster. For some it may be too big. For me it was comfortable.

I hate the 40, but my issue gun is a 22. I'm about to hand over my 19 to my father and get a 23. At the very least, I can drop another $100 and get a lone wolf barrel in 9mm and use that in the 23 to shoot 9mm.

I often carry a G23C, the "compensated" model. This makes the recoil much more manageable. I haven't had any problems with concealment. Apparently Glock has stopped offering this feature. I also have a G27, that I will probably sell sometime soon. I'm not as proficient with that gun and it ends up sitting in the safe unless I'm going to the range.

Edited to add: Glock has stopped making the "C" models, so this isn't an option for someone looking for a new Glock.

The problem I see with the compensated model is if you have to use your gun at night in self defense (the most likely case) your vision is momentarily impaired by the upward flash through the port holes. I would think this liability far outweighs the benefits of less recoil.

I too carry a glock 23 everyday. Get the 23 and if you ever want to go down to 9mm, get a conversion barrel. Best of both worlds.

G23 is an excellent firearm. Just like Javier said, you can get a .40 to 9mm conversion barrel and you basically have 2 guns for the price of one. You can also convert it to .357 Sig.

The reason is that Glock gives good deals to LE agencies and promotes their firearms to LE heavily (so price and product image seem to be important). I think it also helps that Glocks are easy to operate, require little maintenance and do not have external safeties so even inexperienced LE officers can use them with little trouble. Many LE agencies went with the .40 S&W but I think that will change with improvements in ammo.

I now Have a G23 & love it. I carry it daily. I use it for comp combat shooting. I reload for practice.
I have the gen 4.
