I live in Austin and I can tell you that Acevedo is an anti 2nd Amendment Socialist. He is active with several anti gun groups including Bloomburg and has traveled to Washington on taxpayer dollars to speak before Congress as a proponent of stricter gun control.

His statement was part of an interview but not taken out of context at all.
Closer to home, my recollection is that he testified against campus carry in a legislative hearing in the 2013 session. He basically said it would create confusion when his officers arrived on the scene of a hypothetical campus shooting. Unfortunately, nobody asked him whether there has been any analogous off campus confusion since 1994.

All ya gotta do is a little Google search http://www.myfoxaustin.com/story/275187 ... -extremist" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

His statement is in there. He basically says if they are acting 'peculiar' and especially if they are a'gun enthusiast', then they 'might want to vet these people'. Some people may say I act peculiar because I am a gun enthusiast. Way too open a statement by him and I think it shows his true thoughts on 'gun enthusiasts' overall.
So my neighbor doesn't like me because I shoot a lot, does that mean I should have the police come out and vet me? Does that mean somebody should interrogate me about me beliefs, thoughts, and have my house shaken down? That word usage is very vague, and unless I'm doing something wrong, nobody has the right to interrogate/check/verify me without a justifiable cause. Seems to me like he's another politician, rather than a cop.

It was under Acevedo's watch that the big billboard appeared (in east Austin, of course) saying "Tell us about your neighbor who has a gun."

Come on guys. Nobody has TWO bricks of 22. I do have a unicorn I keep tied up in the back yard though.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

I'll bring the two bricks if we can shoot at the unicorn...
