Re: A real President, a Real American, God how I miss him!
I'm proud to say I served our country under this great leader. I pray God provides another man of his stature to lead this country, and to greater heights. We need men who understand the liberties and rights our God provides to all men irrespective of law and the great dignity we owe those who have died before us securing those unalienable rights through our Constitution and founding principles. As a nation, we need to set our sights higher.

Other than Reagan supporting the assault weapons ban in 1994 and ultimately giving it the push needed to pass he was a great president.

Now that's a low blow. Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's at the time he wrote the letter. His letter was hardly the "push needed to pass" it.nightmare69 wrote:Other than Reagan supporting the assault weapons ban in 1994 and ultimately giving it the push needed to pass he was a great president.

I enlisted during Reagan, and got out during Clinton.

What advisors? He had been out of office for 6 years.Oldgringo wrote:Charles L. Cotton wrote:Now that's a low blow. Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's at the time he wrote the letter. Chas. Were his advisors also similarly afflicted? FWIW, I voted for him both times.

by 1994, Miss Nancy was most likely the only advisor he would listen to, regardless of other voices. They had the tightest bond of any married couple in politics, or any other public spotlight that I know of. So, it could have been possible that Miss Nancy might have swayed his better judgment in those last few "suffering years". (Alzheimers ain't no picnic!)

Don't forget the ban on post-86 MG for taxpaying citizens.nightmare69 wrote:Other than Reagan supporting the assault weapons ban in 1994 and ultimately giving it the push needed to pass he was a great president.
Still, he was the best President during my lifetime.

That was part of the much needed Firearms Owner Protection Act (FOPA). I didn't like that provision, but without it, FOPA wouldn't have passed. Also, all he did was sign the Bill.nightmare wrote:Don't forget the ban on post-86 MG for taxpaying citizens.nightmare69 wrote:Other than Reagan supporting the assault weapons ban in 1994 and ultimately giving it the push needed to pass he was a great president.

So, Charles, how do we walk back the restrictions on full-auto firearms? This would be something I'd be interested in supporting. Citizens should have the same access to firearms as the military.Charles L. Cotton wrote:That was part of the much needed Firearms Owner Protection Act (FOPA). I have no idea. I doubt it's politically possible.sjfcontrol wrote:So, Charles, how do we walk back the restrictions on full-auto firearms?Charles L. Oh yeah, did I mention that Ronald Reagan was the greatest American President ever?

Re: A real President, a Real American, God how I miss him!
This is the reason why it is so important to have Congress and the Senate. They took FOPA, a fantastic bill, and at the last minute jammed in the obscure NFA machine gun ban. Let's pass it so we can see what's in it... NFA is arguably unconstitutional but is 1934/1968. I believe state restrictions on full-auto/SBR/SBS etc. "may" pass muster, but federally we have the 1934 Roosevelt era NFA to blame, not President Reagan.
Maybe some of you remember that President Carter was in favor of a handgun "ban". Federally! I was very young in 76, but really? A handgun BAN? The NRA is the first line here! Yes we have lots of other groups... But N R A !! Since 19th century. Get with the program folks!!!
OK now I'll go back to posting....my lame jokes and unfunny humor
