9MM Justification; FBI Training Division
The debate will never end.......
From the article:
"Below is a very interesting read from the FBI Training Division, FBI Academy, Quantico, VA.
It is an executive summary of justification for law enforcement agencies on 9mm for duty carry."
"Great strides in bullet technology have been made in the past decade and 9mm is on the top of its game. With a select few rounds in 9mm, that have been tested for duty carry, 9mm is fast becoming one of the best options for duty carry."

That was a good read, definitely worth the time.

Re: 9MM Justification; FBI Training Division
This is a very good read, even though it brings tears to the eyes of a die-hard 1911 .45ACP guy. I've been seriously considering switching to an M&P 9 for daily carry because of the greatly increased firepower. (17+1 with 1 or 2 more mags.) I've never worried about the ammo load until the ISIS issue came up. However, the extra ammo could play a role in "ordinary" shootings since it seems thugs have realized that there are more effective with multiple attackers.
My wife carries a Kimber Ultra Carry in .45ACP and she may switch to an M&P 9 Compact. She'd be doing it more because the reduced felt recoil would be easier on her hands. Arthritis is making it somewhat painful to shoot her Kimber.

Good read. Thanks for posting this.
Re: 9MM Justification; FBI Training Division
We've known for quite some time now that shot placement is far more important. With little discernible difference in caliber performance on soft tissue, maybe the discussion should move to the effects on bone or other materials like various types of doors or other things. Where does that lead us in the caliber wars?

Re: 9MM Justification; FBI Training Division
I've had exactly the same kind of calculus chasing its tail around inside my head. I am very sold on the XD(M) Compact 3.8" platform, and the 9mm version carries 19 rounds in the long magazine and 13 in the short magazine. If you have two backup long magazines and the short mag +1 in the gun, you've got a total of 52 rounds of 9mm on you. I can't (and won't) carry my long gun everywhere I go, but I can by-gum have a buttload of ammo on me if the flag goes up. I still find .45 ACP to be by far easier to shoot than most other calibers, and it certainly gives nothing away in terms of effectiveness, but if capacity is the name of the game, 52 rounds of 9mm compares very favorably to 36 rounds of .45 with the same set up (9 round short mag +1, plus 2 x 13 round long mags).Charles L. I carry a Beretta Px4 Storm SC in 9 mm. It is a relatively light and small semiautomatic with a 13+1 capacity.
Best of all I can shoot it much more accurately than my Sig 40S&W or my Colt 1911 45ACP. What more could you want?

I have no inferiority complex from carrying 9mm.

Then where does your inferiority complex come from?mojo84 wrote:I have no inferiority complex from carrying 9mm.

I've recently started converting from .40 to 9mm. Need more time at the range as it is a very different feel.

Too many reasons to list. I've been thinking about getting a big ole F-250 and jack it up to compensate though.Pawpaw wrote:Then where does your inferiority complex come from?mojo84 wrote:I have no inferiority complex from carrying 9mm.

Re: 9MM Justification; FBI Training Division
I was happy to see 9mm Speer Gold Dots on the FBI tested and approved list (link in the article) I shot them once years ago, shot pretty well (for me) with them and made them my SD ammo of choice. UMC (yellow box) 250 round mega packs for most plinking / practice.

I always chuckle when someone gives me hard time about running a 9mm.
