renewal fee

#1

Post by rodnocker1 »

Its time for me to renew my chl again and I've been told that I can only renew online. When I go through all of the crap to renew, at the end I find that the "fee" (meaning tax) is $70.00 but the only way to submit it is through Texas.gov and they are going to charge $73.75 (?) or an ADDITIONAL $3.75 to submit my payment to......themselves?

It's bad enough having to pay $70.00 for my "right to carry" but to tack an additional $3.75 on top of it's ridiculous! Is there a way to mail the renewal in with just the $70.00?

I just renewed by snail-mail. I sent check for $25 (Veteran). Received plastic in less than 3 weeks, mail box to mail box.

The snail mail address is:

Regulatory Services Division MSC 0245
Texas Department of Public Safety
PO Box 15888
Austin, TX 78761-5888

Be sure you identify what the check/MO is for. This may add several weeks to your turnaround time. :tiphat:

Some of that is credit card & internet transaction fees ...not sure how much.

Also don't forget to include forms, CHL-77, CHL-85, AND CHL-86.

We had a problem in my county taking credit cards for license plates and renewal. Has to do with fees imposed by the lege and how do they cover the cost of the CC processing. They finally figured it out I guess (but I always pay by check.)

The online plate renewal charges an additional fee for credit cards.
They charge a different additional fee for mailing a check. :banghead:

Last year they wouldn't do the multi-year renewal so I may shop around this year.
When in doubt
Vote them out!

I never have a problem with the CHL renewal fee or the surcharge for using a CC My CHL is free, I just pay it at the courthouse for tag renewal its easier and the fee doesn't go to the state it goes to the CC processing company, I also don't have a problem with the Fishing/hunting license fee, just don't pay for the CHL or H/F License, its about the only compensation I get from the state for the time I am at drill

I renewed my CHL online on 7/30 and received the new license on 8/15. I was charged $72 Texas.gov price ($70 renewal fee + $2 online processing fee).
