Chicago Crime Rate Drops After CHL Applications Surge

Post by TxD »

From the Washington Times.

"An 86-year-old Illinois man with a concealed carry permit fired his weapon at an armed robbery suspect fleeing police last month, stopping the man in his tracks and allowing the police to make an arrest."

"Illinois became the 50th state in the nation to issue concealed weapons permits. An individual permit costs about $600 and requires at least 16 hours of classes."

This is interesting. I'm interested to see what happens over time, statistically. I think we all agree that more guns = less crime on this forum, but to an anti, this would certainly suggest that more guns does not equal more crime.

I agree that this needs to be watched over time. Chicago could become the ultimate case FOR widespread ccw permitting. Highest gun crime rate major metro in the country, more people killed annually than Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined, etc pre-permitting. Post permitting, settles into line with the rest of the countries major metro areas. Wouldn't that be sweet.

Turns out that those numbers might not be all they're cracked up to be. Apparently Chicago likes to fudge their numbers to make their crime rates look better than they are. http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magaz ... ime-rates/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is the second half of the series, reporting on crimes other than homicide. Bottom line. You can't trust ANY crime statistics coming out of Chicago. Is that really a surprise?

The anti-gun crowd always has excuses for why the facts don't line up with their opinions. The leaders tend to just outright lie and the followers tend to only hear one slanted side of the arguments (and sometimes are desensitized to logic.) For our part, we owe our country to be better.

Fudging crime stats is a common characteristics of big cities with big government types in charge. Memory brings to mind NYC and Atlanta both being caught making major manipulations of their stats.

But even with the fudging, they couldn't make out concealed carry licenses to be the blood in the streets disaster the antis always predict.
