Chili's, which is owned by Brinker International, said Friday, "We kindly ask that guests refrain from openly carrying firearms into our restaurants and we will continue to follow state and local laws on this issue."

Sonic said,"We're asking that customers refrain from bringing guns onto our patios or into our indoor dining areas."
I have no problem with either of these quotes:

1. These merchants also have rights,
2. I don't want to sit around with a bunch of goons playing with symbols; and,
3. I frequent neither business.

This is good enough to listen to several times through the day. If you do that you will have a good command of proper answers to questions that may be asked you.
Mr. Cotton is not only RIGHT but he is articulate. His arguments are very palatable to to the indifferent masses & politicians.

Remember the stats
CHLers 16 times less likely to commit a crime than the general public.
7 times less likely than Texas Law Enforcement.
There is no stat that I know of but this I do know by experience.
CHLers are X% less likely to commit a crime than preachers. I am one for over 40 yrs. Preachers are in the news for crime FAR more often than CHLers.

This is good stuff.

Right now, it seems they're only interested in prohibiting open carry. As long as the Texas Legislature doesn't tie legalized open carry of handguns to PC 30.06, concealed carry probably won't be widely affected.

In my assessment, most business owners are going to do whatever generates the fewest complaints from customers. Concealed carry is out of sight and out of mind, so business owners aren't likely to get many complaints about it. However, they ARE likely to get complaints from CHL holders if they post 30.06 signs; therefore, few business owners post 30.06 signs.

Because open carry is much less subtle, business owners are much more likely to get complaints about it. If the only way they can prohibit open carry is by posting the 30.06 signs that simultaneously prohibit concealed carry, they'll weigh the cost of irritating half of the population (people who don't own guns) against the cost of irritating 2% of the population (CHL holders) and, in all likelihood, choose to post the signs.

If you read their statements, they're not banning guns in their establishments. Until they put up 30.06 signs, you are still good to go. These statements are for public consumption, to calm the nervous hearts of the sheeple.

Not yet, at least. However, if the OC group continues with their antics, it could lead to that eventually.

I keep reading in the links how Starbucks has said they don't allow weapons in thier stores.... In all the stores I have been to in North Texas I have never seen a gun buster sign or a 30.06.

If they do start posting signs it's not going to break my heart by not going there..

I seriously do not see an end to this idiocy anytime soon. Even if OC of handguns is passed you will not be able to carry anywhere but public property thanks to open carry Texas getting OC banned from major franchises. Their bans on firearms will remain whether OC passes or not.

What I don't get is here in VA when we have an OC dinner we let the establishment know BEFORE we come. They agree that it is ok with them. That is simple politeness. That is with handguns holstered with retention.......why was this not done here?

If you want to have on OC dinner great! Now make some phone calls and find a place that is ok with that. It sounds like these guys just showed up and scared everyone.

The problem here is that they are doing it with the evil black rifles which are a bit more intimidating. An OC meeting with handguns would be a trip to jail.

Great, OC rifles sounds like a hoot nanny time!......call ahead. Don't just show up and make the place think they are under siege. I am a reasonable person. I love the second amendment. If I owned a restaurante and an known OC advocate called me I would be most amiable to have them frequent my shop, I'd even give them free sodas. However if they just showed up and I did not know them, it would at minimum cause surprise on my part and perhaps panic. All of this could have been avoided with a phone call.
