Jarrett sees immigration, wage bills getting done
Jeff Cox | @JeffCoxCNBCcom
The Obama administration has its sights set on immigration reform, raising the minimum wage and implementing gun control, initiatives Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett said Thursday are all achievable on some level this year.

"We're going to work with Congress wherever we can," Jarrett said at the Skybridge Capital SALT 2014 hedge fund conference in Las Vegas. "There's still an enormous amount that we want to get done."

{-----SNIP-----}

She pointed to companies such as Costco and The Gap that have acted unilaterally on raising wages and believes that sentiment will spread.

That's the kind of action she hopes to see in the gun debate.

Congress has been reluctant to infringe on gun owners' rights, but local governments have been more receptive.

"If we can't get it done in Washington, then we're going to get it done at the local level," Jarrett said. "We're not the perfect union yet. We're a work in progress. Collectively, we can make a huge difference."

Sounds like desperation to me. Somehow trying to salvage some sort of legacy from a total failure of a president.

I'm sure. Nothing says "bring out the single issue voters who don't vote for your party" like trying gun control in an election year.

Its like Obama WANTS the Democratic Party to be destroyed in the next election. :headscratch

"the perfect union" that Valerie Jarrett is referring to is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, aka the Soviet Union. :mad5

We can only hope. Given what is happening in Washington, however, there seems to be a line of Republicans who would be glad to take their places on a variety of issues.

I've been scratching my head over this since TAM posted it. On one hand, it might be like the initiative against other countries with anti-gay marriage activities and designed to placate an important American contributor. Or it could be a way of trying to gin up the Liberal base in the face of the apathy being reported in the polls. For me, it was an open admission that the phone and the pen are not working and that the Feds are going to dangle more dollars in front of local governments in hopes of advancing their cause. Of all of the Constitutional violations that are occurring, the interference by the Federal government into local ones is the one that scares me the most. Those of us who are having some success at getting non-Liberal local officials elected don't need to be fighting a two front war.

The Republicans are already committed to a suicide pact and eating their own when they're not far enough to the left. More than half the electorate is now either on some kind of government assistance or working for the government. These people are not going to vote against a paycheck or an EBT card. The Dems, with the assistance of suicidal Republicans, are importing "undocumented Democratic voters" in droves. Any national election that gets out the producer vote will merely be a speed bump on the road to the abyss. And that assumes no election fraud which is a very optimistic assumption.

What is needed is a good dose of tyrant control.

Thomas Jefferson was right, but these days it seems the patriots are the only ones bleeding.
