Georgia Guns Everywhere

Post by goose »

BusinessWeek continually wants to be anti-gun. But they did at least land on a real idea for a change. Like an idea suggested by the NRA and lawabiding gun owners for decades.

Down in bullet point four: "Broadly speaking, this approach would have liberals emphasize more aggressive enforcement of existing laws against illegal gun possession, rather than obsess about situations that allow law-abiding citizens to own guns and carry them on their person."

More important than BusinessWeek's 2A policy is the law the is awaiting Gov. Deal's signature. Based on the BW story - and nothing more - it sounds close to "cop carry". Any of our member of the Legislature on the record as carrying this type of bill? IIRC, Charles's bill had a potential Senate sponsor that ultimately didn't work out. With Rep. Lavender having been defeated in the Republican primary, he's not an option.

Governor signs bill into law.

I picked the NBC news story because it used extreme in its headline.

The way I look at it, its kind of like the pot bill in Colorado* in some ways. Its an experiment. If after five years its no big deal, then maybe New York will change its laws. (I'm not holding my breath)

* I know smoking pot is not specifically guaranteed by the U S Constitution.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I have heard the Declaration of Independence is written on hemp paper. :confused5

Watching the talking heads discuss this this AM.
"Now GA residents can carry weapons into certain areas at AIRPORTS!!"

As if we haven't been doing that here for decades.

Sometimes "ignorance is bliss" is a good thing. Most people in Texas have no idea that we can already carry in places of worship, non sterile portions of airports, government buildings (including the State Capital), places that serve alchohol, school carry with Board approval, etc. I for one will not advertise that many things Georgia got in their new law, we already have in Texas. They got other things I wish we could get.

It seems that some folks get up every morning and are shocked to see the sun rising in the east. Many people are so clueless it must be intentional.

Everywhere? Not even close. And they still require a license if you want a less infringed constitutional right.
