AndyC wrote:Being inspired by puma guy's lovely find of a Charles Daly .410 O/U recently, I decided to buy myself a double .410 as well - and, never having owned my own side-by-side (SxS), I bought a Yildiz .410 SxS at Academy.

Now, here's an annoyance: Academy are, apparently, the sole distributor for Yildiz. Now, there are higher-grade models that look pretty nice - upgraded wood, false sidelocks, etc, that I would happily have bought instead - but the counter guys at Academy said they can't order specific models; they get what they get off the truck.

Standard model, the "Elegant A4":

Fancy model, the "Elegant A4 Special Lux":

The former is what I bought - the latter is what I wanted. I sent a note to Academy's HQ, basically asking them if they don't like money or something.
Nice! I didn't know that they made double barrel .410s. :thumbs2:

Andy, That's so cool. It looks really nice. I notice it has a pistol grip rather than a straight English style butt stock. I like that. What's the barrel length? . Did you buy skeet chokes for it? Sorry for all the questions. Need to get an Elm Fork shoot going! I'll shoot yours if you'll shoot mine!

I hope you guys are set up to roll your own. Seems that .410 shot shells are neither readily available nor affordable. When I was younger my old J.C. Higgins .410 was my favorite rabbit and coon hunting gun. That was when .410 shells were half the cost of 12 ga, rather than twice the price.

Nice AndyC, I really like to shoot the .410 bore for fun. I have a Verona o/u .410 with 30" bbls that I love, shoot it at 4 gun sporting clays. Congrats on the new gun.

Say what? I'm with you on price, but I've never had any problem finding any kind of .410.....slugs, buckshot, birdshot....all readily available. I think the last .410 birdshot I bought at Wally World was $12 a box of 25.

I had no problem finding it. Win AA 2-1/2", 1/2 OZ #9 shot for 10 bucks. It is a little more costly than 12 Ga AA which goes for 7-9 bucks

AndyC wrote:Well, fired off 50 shells - what a hoot!

First 25 shells I shot on the practice trap to see where it shot, how it handled, etc. Fired the first 10 shots mounted to test for fit, then the next 15 from gun-down position, snapping it up into place to see if the fit held true under pressure; it did.

Ambled off to the skeet-range and shot a round by myself; it was windy as all get-out so I was a bit apprehensive. I shot a 20 - not shabby at all for:
...a new gun
...in .410 (2 1/2" shell, 1/2oz load, #9s)
...on a windy day
...unmounted
