I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to ask any of this as a condition of employment....this stuff is insurance stuff, medical stuff, it has absolutely nothing to do with how good you are at your job.

I would also start looking for a new job. I would seriously consider not giving advance notice when I changed jobs. Texas law does not require it and a company like that hasn't earned it.

Re: Employer Wants To Know About Firearms/CHL
The dangerous weapon thing floors me. I am sitting here looking at my gun safe. None of the weapons in there seem dangerous to me. They're just sitting there. I'm going to bed in a little while and I'm not at all worried any of those weapons will attack me in the night...
As others have said, I'd talk to a lawyer before I answered. Unfortunately, I think you are in the company policy vs. law zone. They can demand many things from you as a condition of employment. If you don't comply, they can terminate you but can't send you to prison.
My two cents...

That is so wrong. What has become of this country? In the quest to "care for our employees" my employer is forcing everyone to electronically submit "Medical History" and "Domestic Assessment" surveys consisting of the following areas:

The problem is that once asked a refusal to answer will be viewed as an affirmative response

I am pretty certain I would have told whoever it is pushing this to pack sand the very second I was informed of this. I quit a job once because I was told to get a haircut.

Re: Employer Wants To Know About Firearms/CHL
Agreed. There is no reason for an employer to have any of that information- medical or otherwise. There might be legal issues here that trump termination at will in this instance as some of that could be used for defacto age or disability discrimination (I am not an attorney on this, I can just see an argument being made here potentially). The whole thing sounds extremely suspicious like an HR flunkie's gone overboard.FML wrote:I would ignore the request. You should certainly seek a legal opinion from a qualified labor law attorney. Without knowing exactly what your job responsibilities are, it is difficult to say, but I can't imagine that all these invasive questions are appropriate. If the lawyer says you should answer them, I would answer them according to what is best for YOU, not the company. JMO...
