Range that allows IDPA practice

#1

Post by austin »

Hi all.

We own a ranch in the country and before I go the expense of setting up a range there to practice live fire with movement similar to IDPA competition, I'd like to know if there is a range in the DFW area that allows this.

Fort Worth is home, but I'm "displaced" out here in Bossier City until I retire from the FAA in 15 months (but who's counting?). There's bound to be someplace in the area that allows practice though.

I shot IPSC over 20 years ago when I lived in New Mexico. Got all the need for competition out of my system back then.

That being said, we recently joined a rifle and pistol club here that has a tactical pistol bay and hosts IDPA matches. Have no plans to join IDPA or compete, but with access to the tactical bay, multiple target stands, "cover" and reactive steel targets, you can bet the wife and I will be setting up some stages for our personal practice shooting.

The fact that we typically choose a weekday morning to go shooting all but insures we'll have the place to ourselves!

Any forum members coming to go to the boats here, look me up. We'll take you shooting!

The only ranges that allow you to know shoot on the move, work from the holster etc, are private membership types. No pulic range in the DFW area (that I am aware of) allows this type of activity for non LE persons.

I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

There is also the Dallas Pistol Club . Its a private club also.

There is also the Collin County Gun Range in Greenville and there is also a gun range out near Weatherford that allows movement.
