Ehh, the fact is that this one RSD Office, in Austin, Texas has to handle all of our CHL needs, I'm pretty sure they know they can only handle so much at any given time. It is frustration though playing the waiting game, but it is well worth the wait.

Frustration at government processing times...not a first, but it's all first world problems anyway so it's hard to complain too much :patriot: . I just see a guy reading thru all the arm chair hypothesis posts on lunch about the reason for our applications taking so long and grinning. I know I would be...

Haha, yeah, forsure, I could see it too. It's seems as if their process time Fluxuates frequently and a lot, my CHL was out the door today (day 32) I've seen other people' take 30 I've seen others take 70, I wonder why that is...

Maybe it depends on the work ethic of the state employee who happens to pick up the pile with your app in it.

It might also be that when someone calls about taking too long a supervisor assigns the best employee to look into it and what he's currently working on gets slowed down. Personally I could not imagine sitting at a desk all day going through an endless pile of applications one after the other. That is the definition of boring. I suppose we should be thankful for the ones who stick to it and do their best.

My wife went from the usual paragraph about waiting for documents to the detailed list waiting on the background check in 30 days. Feb 28 docs received - Mar 28 detailed status.

I'm more curious how they determine which to process first, mailed documents or online attachments as they roll in.

Initial application: 3 Feb 14
Documents submitted online: 10 Feb 14

I also called Friday, 7 March for my 30-day status update, and the lady I spoke with said "they were still going through January's applications," so take that for what it's worth.
This came up overnight:

Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Proof of Special Condition : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

So this system does update overnight because I checked around 730pm or so yesterday. 40 days from DPS receipt of materials to background review....should be soon now.
I've been under review for my background check since last Friday, and was wondering what the hold up for me is since most other February applicants seem to have gotten theirs completed in a day or two. I have a clean record (save for a ticket for doing a California Stop at a stop sign), been in the same house for the last five years, and recently passed an instant background check when purchasing a handgun within the last two weeks....should I be concerned?

I don't think you should be. I've had some traffic tickets within last few years.

I've moved around a lot the last few years, only a few months at current location.

Didn't have any problems
Trashy,

I'll add that my wife submitted hers on same day, never had a traffic ticket in her life or any other issues at all and her status hasn't updated all.

Like I've said before. There doesn't appear to be any real method to how they do things.
Agreed. Updated overnight:

Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Proof of Special Condition : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Completed
Concealed Handgun License : Manufacturing Pending

47 days from DPS receipt of documents to BGC completion...looks to be about average, no?

At day 42 this past saturday and I got an update that fingerprints and background check were under review. I assume I'll see those update sometime this week.
