Plano PD response to break in at the house
Had an attempted break in today. Went to the movies and returned about 3 hours later to be greeted my my German Shepherd. She was acting all hyper and when I rubbed under her chin, my hand came up bloody. I drew my pistol and backed out from where I came and called the police. Their response was pretty quick and I handed over my CHL/ID to the responding officer who replied with an "Ok, cool....". House was clear and the screen had been popped off and set to the side. Glass was IN the house and there was just a few shards outside which led the officer to believe it was a break IN, not a case of mad dog breaking a window going after a landscaper or neighborhood dog. Apparently, our guard dog did her job and apparently nobody got in. Waiting for the repair man to replace the window and it's raining like mad, but happy overall that we didn't walk in on someone breaking in or IN my house.
Yet another reason to be thankfull for what I've got......especially my CHL.

She's cut up but the bleeding has stopped. We're gonna clean her up as soon as the maintenance guys leave. I don't have to tell you she's watching them like a hawk!!!

I hope that your dog took a good chunk out of them. Sorry that happened, sir. It's a good thing that they were long gone because I've seen you shoot. Glad you and your family are safe.
I came home to a similar situation about 9 years ago when I lived in Shreveport. This got me thinking about my actions then and how much I have learned since. When I have some time I'll post the story under "Never Again".

Yeah, my neighbor is Dallas PD but he's working swings. I checked with all my neighbors and let them know what was going on. Luckily, I lock my doors 100% of the time....even when I'm at home. It's a good neighborhood and not low income or run down. Typical middle class and pretty nice. Unfortunately, it's slightly nicer than some and obviously a target.phddan wrote: What kind of neighborhood you in? Didn't you have a policeman for a neighbor at one time?
I actually have two dogs. The unsung hero of it all was my tactical rat or as some call it, a chuihuahua. From her tactical vantage point (at the other end of the house) she was belting out her unwavering orders to attack to our primary guard dog. Her actions reflect credit upon herself and he co-worker.
I give you our beloved home security system:
