I hate to say this, but it's a good thing the shooter wasn't White. Otherwise, the race baiters and antis would turn this into another Zimmerman case and bring negative attention to Houston, gun rights, and self-defense laws.philip964 wrote:http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/sprin ... cmpid=hpts

Of course, by the very nature of this topic, it is "about sex stuff".Oldgringo wrote: We don't need to be talking about sex stuff.
From what I've read, the boy is black and he has been warned repeatedly about not being at a girl's house if the parents don't know him. As such, it's obvious that he had fair warning that certain actions could have a detrimental effect upon his health. The house is owned by a "Tyler Israelson", but as far as I can determine, it appears to be leased to someone else, possibly within the last few months. I cannot determine the name of the renter, much less the race. As such, I'll *assume* that the girl was also black since if she was Anglo, I would suspect that the father would have just shot the boy on sight.
If the boy had shown proper deference to the father and not made any sudden moves, there's a good chance that the father would not have killed him. The boy did a number of things wrong and for that reason, Darwin caught up to him.

It looks like they might get it. Charges unlikely for Houston dad accused of shooting daughter’s boyfriend, prosecutor saysYoung man's family wants justice.

Both daughter and the boyfriend not respecting parental authority is what caused the tragedy. IMHO, the daughter is the one most at fault.NavyVet1959 wrote:Of course, by the very nature of this topic, it is "about sex stuff".Oldgringo wrote: We don't need to be talking about sex stuff.

That brings up an interesting point of debate though. Let's try this with another scenario and see how if plays out from a blame standpoint...rp_photo wrote:Both daughter and the boyfriend not respecting parental authority is what caused the tragedy. IMHO, the daughter is the one most at fault.
Let's say that two people are in a car and the non-driver tells the driver that he's driving too slow since everyone else is passing them, so he should drive faster even though he is already at the speed limit. So, the driver speeds up and next thing he knows, there's some blue lights flashing in his rear view mirror. Who is responsible for the ticket? The driver or the passenger?
Let's say that two kids are in a store and one tells / dares the other to shoplift some small item. Who is going to be charged with the shoplifting? The person who actually took the item or the person who tells / dares him to do it?
In this case, the "kid" had been repeatedly warned not to go to any girl's house where the parents did not know him. He did it anyway and to top it off, he did it at 02:30 or so. By what stretch of the imagination did he not think that *really* bad things could happen if he got caught? And to top it off, he did not follow the directions of the owner of the house to the letter and made a sudden move.

Re: Houston father shoots and kills guest in daughters bedr
As I said before, this could well be a good shoot although a tragic one. The more I learn, the more I believe the father was justified.NavyVet1959 wrote:By what stretch of the imagination did he not think that *really* bad things could happen if he got caught? Nevertheless, I feel certain the boy didn't think he would get caught and, more importantly, I'm equally sure he never dreamed his girlfriend would deny knowing him. That's what got him killed, pure and simple. You have repeatedly referred to either your daughter or being the father of a daughter. Well who would you blame if your daughter invited her boyfriend to her bedroom when you were asleep, then denied knowing him when you found them together? Don't tell me she wouldn't do that, this is a hypothetical. Plus, I'm sure this girl's father felt the same way about his daughter.
As for not following the father's directions, he was probably panicked at getting caught and then having his girlfriend claim she never know him. Under those circumstances it would be easy for him to do something that the father interpreted as a furtive act.
You really need to tone down your "Kill them all and let God sort them out" attitude.

This has new information. Found under the bed in his daughter's bedroom. No mention if this is where he was shot or just discovered.
We already know he was shot in the head.
If I shot someone in the head it would be because I missed the center of mass.

If charges are brought I dont think a jury would convict.
It's easy to imagine.....Father waken in the middle of the night by his frightened kids; he is foggy brained, and in the midst of fear, confusion & his terrified kids, he is compelled to act quickly. His adrenaline is already red lined; then he sees his daughter in a chilling situation. Not much time to sort things out.
Regardless, I think the poor guy will be haunted everyday by this.
The situation with the teenage boy reminds of a Richard Pryor observation (strictly paraphrase of course) - "It's amazing the places a man with lust will go, even places he wouldnt go with a loaded gun"

Well, I suspect that I'm the only one in this thread right now that has actually been in this situation (well, except for the fact that she didn't deny knowing the boy). I know what I did and it was only because I knew and liked his father. What I might have done otherwise is likely completely different. Unless you have been in that situation, you don't know what you would do.Charles L. Cotton wrote: Nevertheless, I feel certain the boy didn't think he would get caught and, more importantly, I'm equally sure he never dreamed his girlfriend would deny knowing him. Sure, the kid paniced, but it doesn't excuse the fact that he knew he shouldn't be there, but he went there anyway. I might feel a bit sorry for the parents since they apparently did try to teach him right and told him numerous times not to do things like that, but I don't have any sympathy for the boy.
Back in our day, we knew better than to try to do something like that under the father's roof. We knew that we would be greeted with a shotgun and likely shot on sight. We knew that if we wanted to "get lucky", we had better be doing it in the backseat of our car at a drive-in. We knew that the father might suspect, but we at least had to give him plausible deniability. We knew that if we didn't show respect, we would at the very least get our (posterior region) kicked.
Yeah, my daughter is a slut. This man's daughter is also a slut. The boy was a fool. Nature does not suffer fools easily.
Sorry if I'm being a bit direct here, but this is a topic that I unfortunately have too much of a personal knowledge about.
