I truly think that boys are easier to raise than girls. At least for fathers... With boys, we know how they *think*. The fact is, they DON'T THINK, but we understand that and can deal with it. With females though, it doesn't matter if they are 8 or 80, we have no idea how they think. I'm pretty sure that genetically we are prohibited from ever truly understanding the thought process of females. This doesn't mean that what they are thinking is necessarily *wrong*, but just that it is impossible for us to understand.

Now, as the father of a teenage daughter, I have no problem with what he did. Our job as fathers is to protect our daughters from the kind of teenage boys that *we* were when we were that young. Yea, that is correct -- our job is to be hypocrites.

As far as I'm concerned, the boy was trespassing and deserved it. You should not disrespect the father of a daughter by "doing the nasty" under his roof.

As the father of a teenage daughter as well, I can't say that at all. We don't have the right to "blow away" a boy because our daughters can't control themselves. We only have the right to use force when it is legally available to us. That may or may not be the case in this instance.
Besides a bat is so much more satisfying.

As other have said, there's more to this story than has been reported thus far. However, the father said something that should sound familiar: "The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire." Remember, the TPC §9.32(b) presumption applies if a person has "reason to believe" that the other person "entered unlawfully and with force." The kid didn't live there and the daughter told her Dad she didn't know him. This may have been a tragic but good shoot. Only time will tell.

had she simply said, "Dad, he's my boyfriend" it would have been avoided. but she lied, so Dad thought the worst, and was prepared to see what he saw, a bad guy reaching for a weapon. Now, everyone has to live with the consequences of two teens being completely idiotic. Sure Dad would have been angry, and she would have been "grounded for life", but the boy would still be alive, to face his own grounding. I hate to say it's her fault....but.....

I had a similar situation with my teenage daughter late one night. I was just about to spatter his brains all over the walls when I recognized him. I knew (and liked) his father, so I just shoved my gun in his mouth and called his father and asked him if he wanted me to shoot the kid, call the cops, or if he would come pick him up.

I think this wins the record for the most irresponsible gun ownership story I have heard on this forum.

Well, wait until it happens to YOUR daughter and see how you react in that situation. Frankly, I think that I had amazing self-control in that I did not shoot him like he so well deserved.

It takes two to tango. Did you consider shooting your daughter for "disrespecting" you?

Is the problem really a respect issue other than the daughter not respecting herself?
