Yeah, this is one of those that will be costly whether it's a good shoot or not. The article I saw said the kid dropped his hands down and the dad started shooting. No telling what the real story is.

As other have said, there's more to this story than has been reported thus far. However, the father said something that should sound familiar: "The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire." Remember, the TPC §9.32(b) presumption applies if a person has "reason to believe" that the other person "entered unlawfully and with force." The kid didn't live there and the daughter told her Dad she didn't know him. This may have been a tragic but good shoot. Only time will tell.

had she simply said, "Dad, he's my boyfriend" it would have been avoided. but she lied, so Dad thought the worst, and was prepared to see what he saw, a bad guy reaching for a weapon. Now, everyone has to live with the consequences of two teens being completely idiotic. Sure Dad would have been angry, and she would have been "grounded for life", but the boy would still be alive, to face his own grounding. I hate to say it's her fault....but.....

Now, as the father of a teenage daughter, I have no problem with what he did. Our job as fathers is to protect our daughters from the kind of teenage boys that *we* were when we were that young. Yea, that is correct -- our job is to be hypocrites.

As far as I'm concerned, the boy was trespassing and deserved it. You should not disrespect the father of a daughter by "doing the nasty" under his roof.

I have no problem with this explanation. But I don't find it hard to believe that dad shot kid after seeing his daughter with someone in the bedroom. They are not mutually exclusive. It is possible or probable that he didn't know the identity of that person. If he had an anxiety attack after the shooting, it is also possible that he realized after the fact that his daughter was not in danger or being attacked and that he shot the man because of his anger and outrage.

Wow, sad story for sure. I have a daughter so I get the anger, but I have been on the other side of this one too as a youngster. I would think dragging him out by his ear would have sufficed, but it depends if the daughter really allowed dad to think he was an intruder.

The 17 year old may have decided to fight with the "old man." I have seen too many 17 year olds that would fight at the drop of a hat. Lets face it most 17 year olds are in much better physical shape than the 55 year old father.

According to the links I've read posted herein, the girl is at least, a liar. At first, she didn't know who the boy was or how he got in the house. She later confessed that she did know him. In all likelihood, she let/invited him in the house. The boy can't defend himself because he's dead and the dad is er, uh,....'upset' because he killed a guy on the account of his lying daughter.

'Tis a sorry state of affairs indeed. I am so glad that I never had a daughter. I still wonder where the girl's mother was during all of this?

The nice thing about the internet is that we can relay happenings in our personal life and since we're using an online handle instead of our real name, it is rather anonymous. As such, I can relay the following minimal embarrassment. Maybe it will make others think about how they would handle it.

I had a similar situation with my teenage daughter late one night. I was just about to spatter his brains all over the walls when I recognized him. I knew (and liked) his father, so I just shoved my gun in his mouth and called his father and asked him if he wanted me to shoot the kid, call the cops, or if he would come pick him up. He thought for a second and then said that he would come pick him up. You would think that would scare the kid enough that he would not come anywhere close to my house again. No such luck. I caught him a couple of days ago in the same condition. I recognized him right before I pulled the trigger and thought for a few seconds on how much of a mess it was going to make. They're both over 18 now, so it's more of a case of him disrespecting me by doing that in MY house. Probably should have just hogtied him and staked him out over a fire ant bed. Yeah, I know -- my daughter's a slut... I'm very disappointed in her. She has no shame... I suspect that it is her mother's fault though since she would never let me inflict "negative reinforcement" for instances of bad behavior.
