Here's one more reason why YOU should definitely read the laws that apply to CHL's if you decide to get the license.

While your instructor will, I'm sure, endeavor to explain the basic laws to you, there is no way that he/she can cover every law affecting a CHL licensee in depth, and heavens forbid, sometimes instructors, who are CHL holders just like everyone else, can state something inaccurate, or maybe not explain something clear enough for you to understand some of the subtlety of the laws.

Your personal reading of the law may keep you out of trouble, and/or keep you out of jail?

Now, aren't you glad you asked?

Of all the people on this forum who may have read them all, including myself, Charles Cotton is most likely to have done so.

OTOH, TX CHL laws are nothing compared to NY's and I used to read them at least once a year, every year, because they changed that often, and I still check them from time to time (I have lots of relatives and such up there.)

Having read the Texas Government Code 411 as well as section 18 of the USC many times I'm looking forward to the picture book version. :txflag:

Well, I doubt he has read them that much since he wrote most of them to be put into the bills.

I read them, I didn't necessarily comprehend all of them because IANAL. It is much less reading then all the traffic laws that pertain to my drivers license, and I will admit right here, that I didn't read all of those.

I glommed them for general intent and instruction but IANAL, I am a Texas CH licensee, and am not about to try to quote the laws period and paragraph. That said, I've learned more on this forum over the past half dozen years than I did in my two mandatory classes...in my time at my leisure.
Yep... That would describe my story as well. I have attempted to read them but it isn't exactly easy reading. ;-)

This book helps for those of us that need it "dumbed down" a bit. It is easier to read than a list of statutes .

Several times. My freedom depends on reading it, understanding, and adhering. I am carrying a loaded gun around after all, not a water pistol.

With my short experience as patent law expert witness/analyst, I can read the CHL with confidence. I recommend to read it many times and discuss an issue here on the forum. I learned here maybe like 100X more than my condensed first 10-hrs CHL course.

Do you, or anyone else here know if the latest 8th Edition published in Nov 2013 includes the most recent changes iirc from Sept 1? Reminds me that I haven't looked to see if they've updated CHL-16 yet. As I look now they still haven't--the only one I can find still says October 2012.

Hmm why can't I get the book pic to display as you have LR.

Good point. I didn't think about the changes of 2013. It may be time for me to start looking for an updated version.

I have noticed pictures aren't showing up in the quotes lately. It may have been done in the site coding to help reduce bandwidth usage.

and a bit of a smart a** today too, sorry...no patience....
