The bid specification going out Wednesday — for roughly $200,000 worth of guns and $150,000 in ammunition — includes six questions measuring vendors' gun safety record. One asks whether the manufacturer would commit to preventing its weapons from appearing in violent video games. Another asks what the company does to combat illegal gun trafficking.

Lawrence Keane, senior vice president and general counsel of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms industry trade association, said: "We would very much object to and oppose this attempt by a local government to politicize the selection of firearms for its police officers. Gun control politics has no place in the selection process."

It's like asking a food vendor what they do to promote exercise.

That would be like making a tobacco company post on it's product that it dangerous to use it...
Oh, wait.
Oh, wait.

Re: Jersey City police gun contracts
As long as the firearm manufacturers try to “keep a low profile”, keep manufacturing facilities in states with asinine gun laws and leave the battle to gun owners, all for the “bottom line” this sort of foolishness will grow.
The gun grabbers love “boycotts”. Maybe some of the big gun manufacturers should move to gun friendly states and refuse to sell guns and ammunition in California and or Washington D.C. even to law enforcement.
I for one am fed up with the NRA and others fighting federal and state governments while firearm manufacturers remain silent and do nothing.

Exactly what I thought. Maybe nobody will submit a bid at all.VoiceofReason wrote:The gun grabbers love “boycotts”. Maybe some of the big gun manufacturers should move to gun friendly states and refuse to sell guns and ammunition in California and or Washington D.C. even to law enforcement.
Somebody in the business must realize that once you show willingness to meet their demands they will get more and more demanding.

It's almost as if they don't want their cops to have guns...

Re: Jersey City police gun contracts
There's an easy fix for this. The local government establishes a policy that they won't buy from anyone who does not prevent their products from being used in movies. The manufacturers establish a policy that they will not sell to any local government that has established such rules. Either the old guns wear out and the cops move over to cap guns or they have no weapons at all and learn to speak with a British accent, or the local policy is adjusted.

Q: Would your company commit to preventing your weapons from appearing in violent video games?
A: No. It's free advertising. Besides, it has been widely reported in the media that violent video games, movies, and television shows do not promote violence in real life.
Q: What does your company do to combat illegal gun trafficking?
A: We vote Republican.
