I was not sure what to make of that. It seems if the school board member was familiar with concealed carry, their would be no question being asked about why he put his firearm away while sitting in a bar with a red 51% sign.jmra wrote:Welcome to the forum.estes9294 wrote:I was at a political action committee dinner party at a local restaurant awaiting election results last month. The election results were delayed due to court house buffoonery and the restaurant was set to close. So we moved the party to a nearby hotel bar. I left my weapon in the car due to the “red 51%” sign. A school board member approached me after I had been there a few minutes and asked me where my weapon had gone. He told me he saw the IWB clips at the restaurant and wanted to find out how I got it comfortable. He had been trying to wear one but could not get it comfortable. As a general rule, people are not nearly as observant as you fear they will be when you start CC. Relax, be safe and be comfortable with your weapon. Isn’t that the reason most of us carry.
I think most people observant enough to notice and informed enough to know what they are looking at are going to be like minded. As long as someone isn't carrying somewhere they shouldn't, exposed clips is no big deal at all.

I agree. I too was suprised that his question implied he didn't know it was not a lawful carry location. I think he may of asked me where my weapon had gone as a way to start the conversation, not a reflection on the location. We got in a lengthy discussion with another school board member on where on school property you could lawfully carry. He clearly knew the law there.03Lightningrocks wrote:I was not sure what to make of that. Thanks for the welcome to the forum. I have been lurking for a while and have found the info here invaluable.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I was parked out in the "no mans zone" of an Academy parking lot. Not a vehicle within fifty yards of me. I had just purchased a box of new self defense ammo. I was topping off my half full magazine being careful to keep it low. My Glock was laying on the passenger seat of my truck. I look up and a truck with two guys in it drove up out of nowhere and stopped right at my passenger window. They had seen I have some damage on my door and were trying to drum up some auto repair business. Meanwhile, all my business was just out in the open for them to see if they just looked into the seat area of the truck.drjoker wrote:At my Wally walk, only on the fisrt day that i ever carried. I've been hugged a time or two and got the "look", but have never been told or asked.

Me too, but I really am not sure what "the look" was for. Did I smell funny? Did I accidentally hug a wrong body part? Was the hug not really wanted but I had forced my hug upon an innocent bystander"? One just never knows.Oldgringo wrote:I've been hugged a time or two and got the "look", but have never been told or asked.

Nobody said anything the times I open carried either.

Also, depending on where you keep your gun, the hugee might've thought that you were really happy to see her. ahem.03Lightningrocks wrote:Me too, but I really am not sure what "the look" was for. There's a few people at church that know I have a CHL that get real grabby with their hugs trying to figure out if it's there and where it's at. The only looks I get when that happens is from my wife.drjoker wrote:Also, depending on where you keep your gun, the hugee might've thought that you were really happy to see her. ahem.03Lightningrocks wrote:Me too, but I really am not sure what "the look" was for. We better be careful. I think we might be walking the line with some of our posts above. Maybe best we get back to the poll question so we don't get the thread locked.
I pocket carried at my son in laws parents home today. His whole family was there. They aren't anti gun but they don't carry or even talk much about guns. Few of them hunt. I carried my new S&W 442. Did the hugging thing. Nobody was the wiser. Like I said before though. My immediate family doesn't think any different about carrying concealed than they do a wallet. I didn't have to worry about being snitched out. I really don't see how anyone can be outed when they pocket carry. That seems like a pretty deep conceal to me.

Re: POLL: Ever been spotted?
I guess I need a "sort of" choice.
Wife and I are being seen by a chiropractor after our wreck. Tech was working on my back and noticed the clips of my Alien gear holster. Weapon was in the car so no problems there. She asked what the clips and gap in my waist band were for. I politely said it was my holster. She said,"well as long as you leave what goes in there outside, then I guess we are both safe." I just rolled my eyes and carried on with my therapy. Other techs and the doc have all seen my holster and never said anything. I recently switched EDC to a Sig P250c with an OWB rig. Funny thing, is she has never mentioned it again, and I KNOW they can see the holster now.
I have a feeling she said something to the doc and he told her to be quiet.
