Oil or Grease

Re: Oil or Grease
For grease, I like TW25B. Always worked very well for me.
Re: Oil or Grease
For years I only used WD-40 to clean and Krylon silicone spray afterward because it was free. Never had any problems. So called experts used to tell me "never use WD-40 on guns, it attracts moisture" I thought WD-40 displaced moisture. I never leave guns dirty though.

Re: Oil or Grease
It is basically turpentine and mineral oil and used to use liquefied petroleum gas as a propellant - so yesPecos wrote:Just wondering? Isnt WD-40 highly flamable?
Re: Oil or Grease
Since the 1911 has been around since... 1911 when they didn't have synthetic oils I question whatever happened to just using a good cleaning agent and some Rem-oil. I pretty much just use CLP or Rem-oil on everything I own and they all seem to work ok. I own a lot too but no 1911. But I have room in the vault for one more gun. How about the Remington 1911? Have a Glock 21 and always goes bang and doesn't seem to need much cleaning.
Re: Oil or Grease
I use Tetra gun grease.
I read that you have to heat up your gun parts in order to use Frog Lube - I have no idea if this is true, but if is, I wouldn't want to go to the bother...
My next lubricant to try is Fireclean.

Re: Oil or Grease
Here in Texas that means you should just leave the parts on a table in the afternoon sun for a couple of hours. The heat helps the FrogLube to be absorbed into the metal where it does a spectacular job.Abraham wrote:I use Tetra gun grease.

If you're in a hurry you can achieve pretty much the same effect with a good hair dryer.
IMHO, it is worth the effort.

Got to agree with the Frog Lube. Love the stuff. Non-toxic and smells purty too.

Just wondering. Isn't Rem Oil highly flammable?

Re: Oil or Grease
I've been using Slide-Glide (several different weights, depending on what I'm applying it to) for 6+ years now and have been very pleased with it. I'm not a huge fan of oil as I want to make sure the lubricant is staying where I put it, especially on a carry gun, or gun that I may not shoot for a while after I lube it.

Re: Oil or Grease
The propellant for Rem Oil aerosol is propane, so it is "highly flammable".glbedd53 wrote:Just wondering. Isn't Rem Oil highly flammable?
When the propellant evaporates, flammability decreases.
Most petroleum based oils are flammable to a certain extent.

Re: Oil or Grease
I use Shooters Choice grease on the rails and a light application of Ballistol on other parts. I see that many have apparently had success with various lubricants other than those made for guns so I wont say anything bad about them but for me I tend to have more confidence in products developed by gun guys with the PHDs behind their names. I use Ballistol because it works, its a good solvent as well as a lubricant, its non toxic and it has proved to be reliable by thousands of shooters for over 100 years. I figure I cant be smarter than all that aggregate shooting experience.

Re: Oil or Grease
I've been hearing nothing but great things about Fireclean. It's rather expensive which is why I haven't invested in it yet but if half of what I've heard is true then it's a fantastic lubricant/cleaning agent. Let us know what you think.Abraham wrote:I use Tetra gun grease.

I use Hoppes #9 and Safriland CLP on all of my guns and haven't had an issue yet. I do want to try some grease on my P238 though.
