Instructor Renewal in Houston

#1

Post by hitwsr »

Got my email last night confirming to attend Monday the 21st in Houston. Less than a week notice, but I'll take it.

La Quinta (Cy-Fair) was available for $69 and only a couple of miles away. The next closest I found was $129.
Still not sure if I'm driving or flying; I have a class on Saturday.

Anybody attend a class already prior to this one? El Paso? How did it go? How many in the class?
I got the itinerary all it said was 7:45am registration 8:15am class begins and lasts till approx 6pm
No proficiency, only written exam. Bring your ID.

Road trip!

I still have not been emailed about when my renewal class is. A friend who is an instructor got his acknowledgement last Saturday. I asked for the 22nd. I guess I'm the redheaded step child.

Anyone know how to find out one way or the other? :tiphat:

Finally! :thumbs2: I got my confirmation Email from DPS this morning. I am glad I can make this a day trip because finding lodging at the last minute bites. Look for the guy wearing a blue 82nd Airborne hat. That would be me. :tiphat:

I find humor in the DPS "instructing" Charles. Kind of like being Payton Mannings "quarterbacks coach" "rlol"

Well, guys. How did it go? Did you learn anything? Do we have to wait to 'show proficiency' w/other instructors until after we take the class?

Did they say anything about certifying instructors to teach teachers? I understand the teachers will have to take special 15 hours classes. I presume DPS will be able to teach us in 40 hour classes. Hope they will not require 2 weeks. :(

Good class. Proficiency is your responsibility to do with another instructor and submit the chl-100. As far as teach the teacher, we were told to wait until we hear from them and info is published.
Good info, limit the Q&A of asking questions just to hear yourself talk and you will be done on time. we finished at 7pm including a 55 question exam; easy. One good surprise I will let you find out
on your own that was mentioned and effective immediately but not published yet. No "approved" powerpoints, and also a you tube account for us to use for "approved" videos. Also, no guest instructors.

Just finished up the Houston class today. We too finished up at 7pm. 80 in the class. If you keep the questions down it might not last as long. There is always one or two that ask the "what if" type questions. Good Instructors and real friendly group of CHL Instructors. Best lunch is the Sams across the street and get the $1.50 hotdog combo. Allow for traffic. The class started at 8am even though the DPS sheet said 8:15. Now I go to Pearland on the 29th to shoot with Charles...and I'm finished.
