I'm perplexed...
The monster, a.k.a. Wife Unit has aquired another firearm today...Actually its her first official personal purchase...
She bought a Taurus PT 24/7 9mm...
I have to say that these firearms are great out of the box...Smoothest trigger I have ever worked in that regard...I only shot one mag, so I guess I'll have to leave it at that because this is "her" gun now...sigh...
The only problem I cannot seem to figure out, and I may just drop it and let her resolve it...
One of the two mags you get with the NIB pistol has a strange rattle after you consistantly load 8 out of 17 rounds in that magazine...Yep, I said it, 17...
Now I have dissassembled the magazine and didn't see anything remarkable...But after re-assembly, you'd figure whatever problem it was, would possibly go away and not be a factor in functionality...Of course she did not want to use that magazine, so I figure its going to be discarded...Or taken care of in some way shape or form...
The rattle does not appear until you actually load the 8th round...And after that all subsequent rounds appear not to dampen the rattle...
So not to make a big deal out of it, if anyone has an idea, I'm open for suggestions...
Magazines are like holsters to me...If it works great, if not, they get thrown up on the heap of "What didn't work" pile...
But since I have never dealt witrh this maker before, I figure it may be part of that big crap shoot you take when you go with something you have not worked with before...
It is a great firearm, and hopefully if I can steal it away, I'd love to shoot it again...But she may have a problem with that...

Rattling mags....sounds like a good name for a song.
But I digress.
Kel-Tecs are known for the rattles and their boards have lots of advice on how to deal with it. If Taurus has a fix, hold tem to it. A little rattle never bothered me. Kind of like change jingling in the pocket, Leather holster noise, new jeans making that nosie as you walk.
Just all part of the background.

Somewhere within the compression of that mag spring at about 8th round is where it feels and sounds like something gets a bit out of alignment...
I have never had a problem like that, that couldn't be resolved by taking the mag down making sure there was not physical interference or manufacturers defect that I could see, re-assemble and see if that might make it jell together better...
I sure going to call Taurus Monday and see if they'll send her a new one and I'll be glad to send this one back them...
I'm not going to let her take a chance with this one...
BTW, for the new group called "Mag Rattlers", what do you think was the culprit???

- spring
- round
It sounded like metal to metal, and it was a distinctive (focused) source like a round a bit loose in the stack, or the spring compressed to a point where it rattled a bit in the mag housing at that point...
I guess its just the engineer in me that is intrigued by this curious issue...
The shooter in me says forget about it, get a new one for her and move on...
I'd still like to figure it out someday...You never can learn too much...

You know its funny...HighVelocity wrote:Call Taurus first thing in the morning and I bet they have a new mag in the mail by the end of the day.
I think your wife made a fine choice. The 24/7 line is getting great reviews.
I do all the research, study and shopping...And when it comes time for her to make a purchase like this...
Its like ducks to water...Boom...Done...
I only put one mag through it...And I was pleasantly shocked by its functionality, and accuracy right out of the box...
Even though its only a 9mm, that sucker works very well...

As I recall some folks twisted their mag springs a little. I am not sure if the spring steel hold the twist. I switched to the Wolfe springs in my Kel-Tecs and it helped. The only one that noticeably rattles is the P-11. The P-40's and P3AT's don't.

Maybe I'm just prejudice against things that rattle like that...gigag04 wrote:+1one eyed fatman wrote:My XD mags rattle. It's normal.
9mm indeed!
I have to tell y'all that she walked out of there with that pistol NIB for $357.12
I actually thought that was a pretty good deal...I expect to hear differently though...
That reminds me I got to make a phone call...

I was actually mocking your mocking of the 9mm caliberstevie_d_64 wrote: 9mm indeed!
I know its smaller, but I would no sooner choose to be shot with a 9mm than I would with the big ol .45 I was carrying.
I also don't want to start up a caliber debate...

you get to go first, since I have the weaker caliber.
