That's partially based on his "romantic view of Texas gun law" comment. Some people outside this state think our gun laws are lax, but I think most of us can agree our carry laws are among the most restrictive of the
shall issue states. I know there are historical (or hysterical, take your pick) reasons for the high costs, restricted locations, penalty for not concealing, and until last month one of the most time consuming training requirements in
shall issue states for new and renewal licenses. However, for newcomers to Texas who don't know the history, it can be a surprise to face bigger hurdles and more restrictions than where they came from.
