Re: POSTED: Duck Commander Gift Shop - W. Monroe, LA
Real quick answer to some of of the questions...
There is one gift shop, with two rooms. My understanding is that they expanded due to the crowds. So the original gift shop is now the exit. There were 6 employees that I saw but none of the family that is on the show were in the gift shop area. There was a crowd of people at the back of the warehouse as we were leaving that looked like they were trying to see inside back there. I think that is where the family works as we did see Jase Robertson drive to the back and park there. It does look like they get a lot of visitors and fans.
As TAM pointed out, a no gun sign of any kind is enough notice in Louisiana.
I too am going to send an email to them asking about it but haven't had time to sit down and write it. Plus I'm not sure anyone in the family would see it though, especially if the person who put up the sign is the one that filters their public emails. I was kind of hoping that someone on this forum might know them or knows someone who knows them so that a friend can point it out to the family. I hope that someone in the office did it without the family's knowledge. It was very small. Still mad I didn't take a picture of the sign.

Some things you must remember about La. It is an open carry state for both handguns and long rifles. There is no way to prevent unpermitted open carry without preventing all forms of carry.
So if you want to prevent a Sy character wannabe from walking into the store thinking he is going to show off his toys and his skeet shooting ability to the "family", you have no choice but to put up some kind of no gun sign.
Lessons learned from my 30+ years in La:
- Open carry comes with a price
- Texans don't realize how fortunate they are to have 30.06 signs
- you can't find a decent roast beef po-boy in Texas

My girlfriend's family is all from St. Rose, LA and got me all worked up on "Po boys" and then I had one and didn't even like it!jmra wrote:Some things you must remember about La. I suppose you're right though, that would be a logical enough reason for me to probably do it as well after the 457th wanna be Robertson came in slinging a Mossberg 500 over his back and decked in camo from head to toe.

What kind of po-boy did you have and from where? My favorite is a roast beef with mayo and gravy (no rabbit food) from Come Back Inn in Metairie. Fried shrimp po-boy is also really good.
Ever have a Muffuletta? My kids grew up here in Texas but every couple of months they start bothering the living day lights out of me until we cave in and do a weekend trip for some New Orleans cooking.

Yes, I have had Muffulettas. Have you ever had a shrimp, a crawfish or a crab Pistolett?jmra wrote:

If it has shrimp, crawfish, or crab in it we've eaten it.Oldgringo wrote:Yes, I have had Muffulettas. Have you ever had a shrimp, a crawfish or a crab Pistolett?jmra wrote:

Now, if you want to spice up Thanksgiving, I can give you a recipe for a New Orleans hot ham that will blow your socks off and have you coming back for more.

I can't speak to/for the beef po-boy but I do believe JMRA is spot on correct with his other two observations; especially, Texas' good fortune to have our 30.06 sign.cb1000rider wrote:Thanks for the perspective.jmra wrote: Lessons learned from my 30+ years in La:

Oh god I couldn't remember where for the life of me, this was like 2 years ago.. I will have to try that next time we are headed that way! I am possibly going to go tailgate the ATM/LSU game in November so I may do it then!jmra wrote:I had an office in James Business Park in St. Rose for 15 years.TrackinPat wrote:My girlfriend's family is all from St. Rose, LA and got me all worked up on "Po boys" and then I had one and didn't even like it!jmra wrote:Some things you must remember about La. As for the Gift shop being posted, I can kinda understand the necessity of such an action for the reasons outlined above. I find it hard to blame the family for doing so if they in fact do know of the sign.

Yes, I believe I jumped rashly to an opinion that may or may not even be true. Furthermore, the reasons that were outlined such as open carry would make me view things differently from a business stand point... especially in a store like that where not only are you going to get all the avid and crazy wannabe Robertsons and the nice families who just enjoy the show.. the two won't mesh well in the store in the wannabes are going to be running around open carrying and acting ridiculous... not saying all open carriers would do that but that store will most certainly attract some and they have a business to run. It's a tricky situation there in LA.bauer wrote:TrackinPat wrote: Glad I live in Texas.

Labor intensive but worth it.bauer wrote:Lets have it!jmra wrote: Now, if you want to spice up Thanksgiving, I can give you a recipe for a New Orleans hot ham that will blow your socks off and have you coming back for more.
Start off with a large bone-in smoked ham (20lb range).
Cut off skin and excess fat.
With a large fork poke as many holes in the ham as you can.
Coat the inside of a turkey sized oven bag with flour.
Place ham in the bag.
Pour a large bottle of liquid smoke over the ham.
Cut open a bag of Zatarain's crab boil and spread the contents on the ham.
Spread 2 to 4oz of Cayanne pepper over the ham (I go heavy but the amount to use is much like the whole caliber debate).
The turkey bag will come with a plastic tie for the end of the bag. Place a pencil in the opening and tighten the tie around it (don't forget to remove the pencil).
Hopefully you have already placed everything in a large pan.
Preheat oven to 350.
Place ham in oven for 30 min at 350 then lower to 225.
This is the hard part - every hour turn the ham upside down (easier to turn just the ham and not the bag-donot open the bag). Be careful not to spill the juice or punch a hole in the bag. The ham is going to make a lot of juice. Turning the ham allows all of the meat to soak in the juice.
Continue this process until the meat falls off the bone (you will go to turn the ham and will be left holding the bone). This process can take 8-10 hours.
You can use the juice for additional flavor when eating the ham but it also is great for killing ant piles in the yard.
Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

JMRA I would have to respectfully disagree.
They are many, states where a No Gun sign has no force of law. You may be asked to leave private property for any reason, which would include if property owner did not like you open carrying. If you were concealed carrying they would have no way to know, and therefor know reason to ask you to leave.
This is much, much better than 30.06. I respect the people who crafted 30.06, and who fought for CC in Texas, but to say we are "lucky" to have 30.06 is only true when compared with states like LA.
Anyhow, I get all my duck dynasty stuff at Academy. Not a single one posted...

Can you list those states for me? Other than Texas of course. I travel some and it would be nice to know the states you are referring to.steveincowtown wrote:jmra wrote:Some things you must remember about La.
