An ntroduction on my part

Greetings, All and Sundry,

My name is Sebastyen, and I am new to the CHL bit (I have yet to take the class) and relatively new to owning firearms in any real capacity. I own a Walther P1 semiautomatic pistol that I would like to carry concealed. I live in the San Antonio area, and I am looking for a reputable CHL school hereabouts.
I have some very newbie-type questions, if I may:

How long is the training, what does it consist of, and how is the scoring on the range done? Would I need a concealment holster at the qualification portion of the class? (or are pistols laid on a shooting table?) Is the Range Qualification a timed event? How many rounds are fired?

Alright, I suppose that I will save the bulk of my myriad questions for later.

You do not need a holster for the proficiency course of fire. It is on the web at http://info.sos.state.tx.us/pls/pub/rea ... ch=6&rl=14

The 5 point scoring area is about 12" wide by 18" tall. Not very difficult by most shooters standards. If you practice shooting a paper plate you should ace it. :-)

A little more detail that may help encourage you to go ahead & get started.
State requires between 10 & 15 hr coarse. You can get it all in one long day from some instructors. I recomend that you choose one that offers a turn key class in one day. That will be your photo, prints, test & range certification.
Classroom consists of lecture on state law concerning deadly force & its leagal or illegal use. Laws pertaining to Conceal Carry. Basic firearms safety & responsibility. If you pay attention in the class you will have no problem passing the written test.

Part of the range proficience test is timed. The time frame is VERY LIBERAL. You will shoot 50 rds. As stated above you will do fine if you practice w/ a paper plate at 7 yds. You will shoot 20 rds at 3yds & 20 more at 7yds. Most folks are already qualified when they finish the 20rds at the 7 yd line. There are 10 more at 15yds.
No holster needed. Most will loan or rent you a gun if you do not have one.
