I love my XD but I know not everyone is the same or that any gun is for everyone. There is an accessory that I've only seen for the XD that does make it particularly attractive to older people, some women, and anyone who may have some issue with being able to rack the slide of an automatic.

A friend quit shooting because of arthritis and now has taken it back up again. Glock has a similar product but it's more a rod sticking out to the side that I don't like as much. I love that even one handed you can work something up to allow you to use the XD

40 something for the xd, more for the glock. It is only possible for a few types of guns, those without any type of hammer, so I don't know. XD and glock are all I know about.

70 ain't old. I'd suggest a Sig P238. He can rack it. If he was in the army as a kid, he' ll remember how to carry it. He might even show you, if you ask nice. Kiddo.

I would also suggest the Sig P938. The slide is very easy to rack for a 9mm. I almost bought one but ended up with a S&W Model 60 revolver instead. I'm also well into my 70's.

No one suggested the Ruger P95, exactly what he asked for, easy take down, 9mm, reliable, under $400. Got my dad one, he took his CHL with it, I paid $350 out the door.

Well folks my pops and I decided on getting the Glock 19. He said it himself that he wants that one. That way I can also get the slide-racking-ring attachment too!

If he is 70, he wont be impressed with Tupperware. I do not like that you have to pull the trigger on a Glock to take it apart.

Easy to take down, simple to clean, heavy enough to control recoil, and very fun to shoot. It also has a de-cocking lever/safety.

Recently I did get a Sig P938. I've put over 100 rounds through it and I find it to be MORE comfortable to shoot than my 642 and as comfortable to shoot as the heavier Model 60. The P938 weighs the same as the 642. The P938 can be carried in a pocket too.
