I am not particularly anxious to be a test case but I carry past so many unenforceable signs it has become habit and without a thought.MadMonkey wrote:FYI, Grapefest is again posted this year (yay I'm home on vacation!). Re: Grapevine Excludes CCL at Grapefest - Help end this Prac
Question...and I feel like I should already know the answer.
When it is not one of the absolute no-carry areas, such as a post office or courthouse, don't they have to ask you to leave first? Isn't it when you don't leave that you become a tresspasser and can then be arrested? I know there are some instances, like going into a private home, where they have to give you notification.
I am not advocating courses of action by anyone, but isn't concealed...concealed?

Not if proper notice is given pursuant to PC §30.06. Actually, it isn't required under TPC §30.05 either, but that's a common practice with many law enforcement agencies.johnson0317 wrote:When it is not one of the absolute no-carry areas, such as a post office or courthouse, don't they have to ask you to leave first?

The Good Lord, approving of CH, punished Grapevine by starting the first rains of a great flood that lasted all day on Sunday.

Well, here it is, another year later, I hope to make it out there tonight. Will report back if they have 30.06 signage or not.
Mr. Cotton: any response back regarding the Open Records Request from a year ago or so?

I am interested in this as well. My family was hoping to go down there tomorrow but I just happened to see this thread resurrected and don't want to bother if they are 30.06 posted again (unenforceable or not)

Back in 2011, Ponderosa said that he had a response from the city attorney advising that the city had the right to post the sign. I'd love to see something written on what grounds the city has the right and the authority to post those signs.
One thing that I've found effective is public pressure. Turn on your cell phone camera, put it in your shirt pocket (sticking out) and ask a GV LEO if he's enforcing the 30.06 signs. Let him know that your CHL instructor said that they were "not enforceable" - post said results on to youtube...
This has worked many times in the past to get police chiefs either to reeducate their officers or change their minds.
I did the same thing at a gun show in Cedar Park recently as I know they City had been informed of the law. The reality was that the event was still posted (unenforceable signs are perfectly legal, just unenforceable). Cedar Park PD said that they knew about the signs and the 2 LEOs I talked to (on camera) said that they were there to discourage "problems" but that they were not willing to make "illegal arrests".

I can confirm that a 30.06 is posted at the South gate on Main Street. It appears to be correct verbiage and size, maybe just a tad under 1" lettering, did not measure or take photos or otherwise engage. Appeared that there was a bag/purse inspection area as well. 51% signs are also posted on the admission ticket booths.
