75 in a 60 Irving
Nothing out of the norm LEO was very nice I think maybe lonely/bored as he clocked me doing 75 at 1400 feet away. I was surprised it could see that far he showed me by clocking a few cars the final one was 78 at 2533 feet that was when he said they were faster then I and need to go write another ticket. Over all not even the least bit phased by my CHL very nice to talk with over all seemed like great guy. Now I gotta pay a fine

See if you can get it reduced.suthdj wrote:Now I gotta pay a fine
My daughter was caught by Irving PD doing about 72 in a 60.
She wanted me to help, but I felt this was a "teachable moment".
Told her to go to contact the DA's office and see about getting it reduced.
DA reduced to "exceeding a safe speed"...ticket and fine were both reduced and no impact to insurance. Might be worth a try.
Glad to hear the CHL was a non-event.
Edit: Reread the OP......>1000 feet? I thought I heard it had to be within 1000 feet to be acceptable in court. I know lidar is advertised as able to reach out farther, but at 1000 feet the beam is pretty wide; wide enough to make hitting a single car in traffic somewhat difficult given the need to hold it very steady to prevent sweeping the target.

The beam width on LIDAR is about 3' at 1000'. So, at 1400' it would be a little over 4' wide. 1400' is only 1/4 mile, so not to hard to pinpoint the vehicle if there were not others in real close proximity. You can also visually pick out a faster moving vehicle at 1/4 mile as well.LabRat wrote:Edit: Reread the OP......>1000 feet? I thought I heard it had to be within 1000 feet to be acceptable in court. Sounds like they treat you well, which is always a good indication.

It's the overpass at the MacArthur exit. They sit in the shade there. Also stay out of the fast lane that is where he said he aims.mewalke wrote:I drive that route every day from work and I've never seen an Irving PD sitting under the overpass.. thanks for the heads up I will have to keep my eyes open (or speed down ;) ).suthdj wrote:635 west bound- close by Fry's sitting under over pass.chamberc wrote:114 or 183?

I drive a sports roadster. I've found that if I drive 2 mph below the speed limit, I am never jammed up, never have to pass anybody, can set the cruise control and arrive in about the same time unstressed. I also drive 100+mph on lonely FM roads, just depends on the situation.
