Olive Garden and CHL / 30.06
A few weeks ago I wanted to take my wife out to an Olive Garden Restaurant for our anniversary. I had not been to Olive Garden since getting my CHL, but I have always heard that they were gun friendly. However, when we got to that particular restaurant, I saw a very visible and correctly set up 30.06 sign.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. I don't know about y'all, but I absolutely loathe leaving my gun in the car and go out of my way to avoid situations, in which I am forced to do so.
My wife knew that these things affect me in such a way, so she even offered to cancel our reservations and go somewhere else, but I knew that it was her second favorite restaurant (Ruth Chris was full on the day) and just decided to bite the bullet.
Regardless, based on my online research, Olive Garden seems to be gun friendly.
Is that restaurant an exception?
Is there an online database of 30.06 restaurants and other businesses, so I could just avoid them?
Would it do any good, if I write a polite email to them, requesting a revision of their policy to gain business of numerous CHL holders, or is it a waste of my time?
What do y'all think is the best way for individual citizens to help make restaurants and businesses CHL friendly?
I would never write a demanding letter to a place like this. I would write a reasonable and polite explanation of how it would benefit them to remove their 30.06.
Am I being to naïve?

http://www.Texas3006.com is the most comprehensive site that I know of for listing 30.06 places.
I routinely visit several Olive Gardens - 2 in south/southwest Houston and 1 in Pasadena. None of these are posted 30.06. Where is the one that you found?

So, the businesses with a sign, designated as NOT VALID (like some movie theaters), just don't know the law?
Why bother posting a sign, if it's unenforceable?

And you're sure it was an actual 30.06 sign, and not the usual 'Unlicensed possession...' sign that restaurants post?

I am almost positive that it was valid. I am going to do a drive by to take a picture this week to verify. Is there a way to update that website?TexasCajun wrote:And you're sure it was an actual 30.06 sign, and not the usual 'Unlicensed possession...' sign that restaurants post?
Even if it's not valid, I can enter it on the website as an invalid sign.

Re: Olive Garden and CHL / 30.06
I have no idea why a business would bother posting a sign that isn't enforceable. We make it a point around here to encourage not rocking the boat where this is concerned. The state of Texas had laid out very specific rules for posting enforceable signs. It's not our job to point out their errors. Plus, if we clue them, these businesses may eventually post the correct signage.ATDM wrote:Thanks for the link.TexasCajun wrote:http://www.Texas3006.com is the most comprehensive site that I know of for listing 30.06 places.

I agree. I don't know, why anyone pro-2nd Amendment would go around trying to correct the improper signage. Let them stay ignorant.TexasCajun wrote:

Texas 3006 is user-generated. You'll have to create an account in order to submit an entry. But the mod there has asked that people only post valid signs. So if it's an actual enforceable 30.06, then please add it.ATDM wrote:I am almost positive that it was valid. I am going to do a drive by to take a picture this week to verify. Re: Olive Garden and CHL / 30.06
This is a question that connot be answered without asking..... and in almost every situation, you should NOT ask.ATDM wrote:Why bother posting a sign, if it's unenforceable?
Informing a sign posting business that their sign is invalid is a BAD idea, because that might prompt them to correct the sign.
Answers...
1. They haven't kept up with the changing sign requirements
2. They never really knew the sign requirements, some corporate pencil pusher just sent them a sign and told them to put it up.
3...... And this is the big one......
Maybe they know the sign is non-compliant and they like it that way... Why? So that CHL's can carry and their anti-gun customers are none the wiser. The anti's see a sign and think "awesome", never really knowing it's non-compliant. And the CHL's see a non-compliant sign and think "awesome". Win-Win.
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

Re: Olive Garden and CHL / 30.06
Actually, we want any sign that is valid or not that is an attempt at a 30.06. We do NOT want gun buster signs, 'No Guns' signs, etc, only those that are 30.06 'like' signs. Also, 51% locations can be posted there.TexasCajun wrote:

Re: Olive Garden and CHL / 30.06
I just refreshed my memory as to the verbiage of the sign, and come to think of it, I think it was NOT a valid sign at the Olive Garden. I am going to take a picture of it and enter it into the website.ATDM wrote:I am almost positive that it was valid. I am going to do a drive by to take a picture this week to verify. I should have paid closer attention when I went there, and I wouldn't have had to leave my gun in the car.
I don't know, why businesses want to do that. If they don't post the signs, there is a chance they'll improve their bottom line. If they do post them, it's a sure thing that they will lose business. I know quite a few CHL holders, who are well to do and can make an impact for any business, who would avoid places even with invalid signs...

Here is a good refresher as far as valid enforceable signs are concerned.
