Anyone Use a Belly Band Holster?

#1

Post by joeybcdt »

I used one many years ago for a short time. I don't remember why I quit. Back in those days I was trying every carry method possible.

Now that I'm exercising again, after a long-term knee problem, I need a carry method suitable for gym shorts and a t-shirt.

Can someone recommend a good, cool belly band? The PT-One looks pretty good. The NRA one looks good too. Anyone with first hand experience?

Tactipac. Not cheap, but I'm wearing mine every day. I carry a P239 and two extra mags in the thing and hardly notice I have it on. It's much better than the first belly band that I bought. It uses Kydex for the pistol holster. The mag holders are elastic. I'm thinking about adding two more, so I could carry four mags on body giving me a total of 33 rounds.

After watching the tactipac video, I gotta ask .... how in the world can you wear that and still take care of the call of mother nature?

That's easy. You drop your trousers, pull the belt up toward your chest, drop your drawers and sit down. When you're done, you pull your drawers up, slide the belt back down to your waist, then pull up your trousers.

If you're standing up, you don't have to do anything extra. The belt doesn't get in the way since it's around the waist.

Second tactipac...wear mine everyday day too. I actually find restroom situations much easier since it is stand alone and not attached to my pants. Also, I love being able to switch between dress pants, jeans, sweat pants and shorts without ever having to touch my gun and holster.

Recently I bought a Bulldog Extreme belly band since I wanted to give a belly band a try.

I put it on, and put my Ruger and my extra mag in. It felt pretty good and I thought things
were going to go great.

Even though the initial feel was that the Ruger was securely in the belly band's pistol pocket,
I leaned over my bed to get something...and the Ruger fell out on the bed!!!

That was the end of my belly band experiment. I don't fancy dropping my pistol when I lean
over gently to do something. :-)

Kangaroo Carry

More of a chest band than a belly band. Very comfortable in the Texas heat.
Watch the vids on the site.

There's a thread here about the Tactipac Holsters. The complaints on BBB are legitimate. They do deliver, it just takes them forever. I ordered mine in March and got it in August! And they don't stay in contact with you like they should, and they don't return your phone calls. But they do finally deliver, and they don't charge your account until the holster ships. It's basically a small business that was overwhelmed with orders and hasn't yet caught up.

I'm glad you posted that. I have a P239 that I've been looking for a holster for. I'd never seen Tactipac. I think I'll order one.

I've got one. I don't use it much though. I'm a little (ok, a lot) rotund...
It tends to roll up a bit. It does conceal well though.

Ditto for me. I never could get used to the rolling up.

I have tried belly band holsters...the cheap ones and they really didn't work for me. They had the elastic pocket made for the gun and the magazine but once my XDS settled in, the front sight would hang on the elastic when I drew.

Once I decide to part with the cash, I will be buying this...

It is modular and uses the velcro backed ohai holster from CrossBreed. You situate the holster on the band where you want it and at what cant.
