What is the cost of a 1st time license, and do you pay it when doing the online application?

Re: Price of 1st time license
$140, unless you have been in the military, or are over 60, then $70.
Fee waived for active duty military, or discharged less than 1 year ago.
Yes, you pay online when you complete the application.

Just did my application, and downloaded the September Fee Schedule.Crossfire wrote:$140, unless you have been in the military, or are over 60, then $70.

Currently active duty or within 365 days of discharge: $ 0 and Veterans: $ 25. Seniors are still $ 70.

Congratulations -- You have now completed the state application portion. The other parts will be to get your fingerprints taken and submitted...and then take and pass the actual CHL class from a local instructor. Upon passing the class you will receive a form CHL-100 which will need to be submitted to DPS to complete your application.

Well, I guess my renewal was at the wrong time. I paid $70 and it doesn't expire now until 01/2019.

Yep. Mine was set to expire 9/2. I took the class in Dec and renewed end of Apr. if I'd had more time with the new law I'd have saved $130 (class and range fees plus higher renewal cost).Commander Cody wrote:Well, I guess my renewal was at the wrong time. Now my CHL will cost a grand total of $5 a year.

don't forget those other fees which will really eat your lunch.....
1. buying of a carry gun (weither you had one before or not)
2. buying multiple holsters for different types of carry and your gun/s.
3. buying a gunbelt after you've worn out a couple regular belts.
4. buying bigger shirts and/or pants for iwb.
5. buying ammo whenever you can afford it to get back to the range for just one more shot!
