I told a friend who is also a CHL holder, I went up to visit her the other week and we went to her cousin's house. She then went about announcing that I was carrying (in a very official and loud manner) to her cousin, who happens to be ultra liberal.

Not a comfortable situation.

If I were in that situation, I would make sure it would be the LAST time I go to that home.

I"ve learned that, if people find out, I should ask them to be quiet about it.

One of the staff members at our other church told several people, and it freaked them out. It wasn't his intent to give me grief; he thought it was a great thing that I carry-- he wanted to tell the world.. and did. I don't think it got the response he expected.

Its the same here with my family. They don't know that I am carrying and have a CHL. I had to sneak my way around stealthly to do all this. At least 90% of my family are anti-gun. My sister was trying to disarm me, but I got through to her why I carry, so she understands now. Its harder on the older part of my family, like my grandparents, some of my uncles, and most of my aunts. I think my parents are the same way also. Its harder in my situation because I'm Vietnamese and the older part of my family are still use to the Vietnamese tradition (anti-gun) because what happen in Vietnam during the war. It's not just Vietnamese family, but the majority of the Asian culture in all is anti-gun also.

I only have 4 uncles and my brother that is pro-gun all the way. 3 of my uncles have gotten their CHL and my 4th uncle he getting his soon. My brother turns 21 in October, so he's going to get his whenever the time comes.

I was born in Orange, TX and raised up in Houston, TX. Now I'm residing in Arlington, TX. A true Vietnamese American Texan here...

Its easier said then done. My grandpa and my dad fought for the South Vietnamese army against the Vietcong. They have seen people getting shot and blown up. Until this day, both of them don't talk much about the war. My grandpa keeps it quiet, but my dad talks about it a little bit if I ask question. I try not to bring up the subject because it saddens them a lot. Right after the war ended, my grandparents and my dad left a lot of their family members behind in Vietnam to make a better life in the US. I understand where they coming from though.

My ex in laws are anti - gun and have a small semi good reason to do so.

Ok to inform you my ex brother in law was murdered in front of his momma's house and 12 year old and his mom and sister in law witnessed the whole thing.

We was shot in the head with a shot gun. I have children by my ex hubby and I am afraid to see how his mother's face get when she finds out. I know at some point she will trust me.


My opinion about the situation is well I think the rest of you can figure that out.

I have a supervisor who is Taiwan Chinese and at first was very anti-gun. That has slowly changed beginning with a visit to our ranch where he got to shoot a bit.

When I started carrying I explained my protocol that I wanted to follow at my work with my pistol and he approved it.

( I don't wear it into the building, but the pistol is within arm's reach at my desk and I do wear it when I leave. )

Yeah, its mainly the Older Generation of Asian families that are more anti-gun then the young ones nowadays. My grandpa and my dad are prime examples of it. It's hard to change their views because when you are that old, you become more stubborn and close minded LOL...

My parents live in Kansas and when visiting a few months ago they saw my NRA membership info lying around and we began a discussion about this. I told them I was in the process of getting my CHL and informed them of the recent change in KS laws regarding Conceal Carry and suprisingly they wanted me to help them both obtain a license. I contacted an instructor there and put them in touch. Suprising, while I know they were ok with guns, they have in the past questioned why someone would carry. Guess they are watching the news a little more since they retired and they understand it is a different world than they thought. Since then both my brothers in KS and two friends have begun the process....all as a result of one conversation.

Hopefully I will have mine before them.

Another reason to not even let people know you're into guns:

I got laid off yesterday. I was escorted off the premises by DPD, as well as local building security. That was a lot of fun. I guess they were afraid i'd shoot up the place or something.

The armed escort business is S.O.P. at some companies. The one that I work for did it for a while; but after they had laid off a few thousand people without any violence, they stopped.
