Another non-communicated change by DPS?
A husband was out yesterday taking CHL class after his wife and some friends did one with me a few weeks ago. In getting him to write on the "photo id" form a note requesting they use his Texas DL photo, he said his wife had spoken a couple of weeks ago with someone at DPS who told her that the form was not even being used any more (GRRRRRR!), that they would automatically be using peoples' DL photo. And that, if she wanted something different on her license, to go by a DPS office and have another picture taken. Hopefully, that is something we will be getting confirmed or denied directly from DPS in the next few weeks ....

Passport-style Photos
For security purposes and processing efficiency, DPS is now utilizing the Texas Driver License or ID Card photo on file for Concealed Handgun Licenses. The CHL-6 (Photo Holder) is only required to be submitted by applicants who hold an out of state Driver License or Identification Card. A revised CHL-6 is now available in downloadable forms.
Range Rule: "The front gate lock is not an acceptable target."

Another good reason for hangin out here. I liked the days when they sent out a newsletter with such stated in advance.
Odd, that I filled out the form and submitted with two new new passport photos as I look considerably differnent now than the photo (with much more hair) on my CHL. The new license, good through November 2018, arrived a few weeks later, not with the photo submitted or the photo on my DL, but with the photo that was on my expiring CHL.

Re: Another non-communicated change by DPS?
on the forms i printed out from the DPS website had a form for Photo ID where it stated you must submit passport quality photos and that's what we did. I look different now than my current DL photo as well in where I lost 40 lbs (much different in the face) and i shave my head now and have different facial hair. just another 20 bucks wasted as I'm sure they just threw those photos away or kept them in my NSA file

I don't know when you printed that form [CHL-6 (Rev. 06/2013)], but the current version says "(submit only if the applicant does not hold Texas DL/ID), then in the middle it says DPS will use the current d/l photo.
I haven't looked a the checklist lately. I do not know what it says. :(

I had the same problem. I even wrote down in the paperwork to PLEASE, PLEASE use the DL picture, but no, they used the old CHL pic. I look like this on my CHL pic.powerboatr wrote:I thought they would use my most current DL pic, which was less than 3 months old when i renewed this year

Re: Another non-communicated change by DPS?
This is one of the things bothering me as an instructor. When I tell one of my students something and then DPS does something else that they have not told us about it makes me look like a poor instructor. I had one student question how much I told them in class was correct. I had three students in my last class go get new passport photos (spent $30) only to have DPS totally ignore their request to use them after I told them they could send them in if they did not like their DL photo. I ended up giving them their money back since I was the one who told them to do it. Sorry but this is not fair for us not to receive this information from DPS.Greybeard wrote:A husband was out yesterday taking CHL class after his wife and some friends did one with me a few weeks ago. I am assuming they have every instructors Phone #, Email. and Snailmail address.
What i cant understand is when the have an administrative change that was told to the last class they held,
that they somhow forget there are about 2,500 or 3,000 of us out there that are still giving info that has been changed.
Do any of them read or come to this site to give inf.???

Re: Another non-communicated change by DPS?
I renewed my security card and it showed up a month ago with my TX DL picture.
It's also a hard plastic like the DL, not a piece of paper that the employer had to attach a picture to and laminate it themselves (way too ghetto for me).

As mentioned above by sjfcontrol, the DPS posted the change in using DL photos instead of passport photos on June 18th on the Instructor Update site.
