Attacked in Plano Taco Bueno Parking Lot

#1

Post by austin »

The following took place beween 1:31 and 1:32 PM.

Just South of Parker on Plano Road is a Taco Bueno in a mostly abandoned strip mall. I stopped there for lunch yesterday and ate five tacos and 1 bean burrito in dining area.

While I was there three kids with baggy shorts, long t-shirts, and crooked caps carried a pizza into the store and ate in the dining room. I looked them over but they were in condition white and ignored everyone else.

I finished eating and proceeded outside with my large iced tea and my book to the S side of the parking lot and entered my truck.

Once in the truck I looked around then went back to reading my book. I had eaten a lot and my eyes were kind of droopy.

A few pages later something very fast shot from my right in my line of sight and slammed into my shoulder exactly where I'd been hit by a simunition last Friday. At the same time a loud pop and a spray of debris filled my truck cab.

I looked to my right and grabbed my left shoulder. To my right the iced tea and a soda can were shredded. My left shoulder was warm and wet under my hand.

I opened my door with my right hand, shoved it open with my left foot, and rolled out of my truck, landing in a crouch on my feet. I looked to my right along the truck and saw a little mexican girl dragging a trash bag to the dumpster. I looked under the door and under my truck and did not see any feet.

I was starting to warm up - my heart was beating hard and I was breathing very hard. The air tasted like copper. I was entering fight mode.

At this point I thought about my 30-30 and my XD in my truck and realized with my shoulder hurt, I should go for the XD. And then run away from the unseen threat.

But I needed to check my shoulder first.

I mentally prepared myself and I lifted my right hand and looked.

My right hand came away sticky and wet with a brown syrupy goo that smelled like Cherry Coke.

There was no hole!

I could move my left arm!

Out of the corner of my eye I could see the little mexican girl with her trash just staring at me, her mouth and eyes open in shock.

I stood up and looked in my truck. The Cherry Coke can which had been unopened, but sitting in the sun for a few days, had exploded, sending the pull tab ( and some warm coke ) into me at high speed.

I got into my truck and left the scene.

Never Again will I leave an unopened can of pop in my truck!!

Great reaction and it was good that you checked your surroundings first before you went to the next step.

Man you must had to take some time to unwind and clean up.

Reminds me of the story of the woman that had one of those biscuit tubes in her backseat. It got hot, the tube exploded, and a bit of the biscuit dough hit her in the back of her head. She was convinced that she had been shot and her brains were coming out of the hole..

I took a small carry on bag aboard a SAAB 340 for a flight from Salt Lake City to Casper, WY last year, and a bag of chips in my carry on popped during the flight. I may have been the only one to hear it, those planes are kind of noisy, and the bag was on the seat next to me.

Flying at low altitudes they don't pressurize the planes, and the chip bag was pre-pressurized, so when we got high enough the pressure in the chip bag caused it to POP!

Woke me up!

It's good to know that you're safe, Austin - - and even better to know that you didn't allow yourself turn to Jello when wounded.
The last train out of any station will not be filled with nice people.

Remember Newton and Azrak.

I'd have to call bull on both; Mythbusters proved that in the hottest temperatures known to man (85deg F) soda cans and lighters cannot explode in a car.

I've often wondered what that show would be like if they got rid of the sissies and found somebody who would try accurate testing methods.

85 deg? You live in Texas. That's a cool day!

Or did you mean centigrade?

Out of curiosity, I've left thermometers in my car that would record the maximum temperature. In summer, it quite often approaches 130.

And I have had a canned Coke explode in my car.

I have had canned soda and canned beer explode in the trunk of my car, back in upstate NY.

I agree...You can't train for this, even when you think your injured...Seriously...

But...

The more I think about this I would have paid money to see this unfold...With the appropriate "action movie" soundtrack in the background...

"Benny Hill" (this would work for me)

My wife has observed my antics over the years and regaled her friends and our families with them.

Her fav story is the "Naked Skunk" tale and it has entertained many a person. ( Yes, it involved a gun .. and not much else..)

I called her right after the can exploded and she was hysterical when I was done.

Candid Camera is not something you want to do around an armed person, though.
