AR Slings - Recommendations
All my rifles and even one shotgun have had conventional slings mostly for toting, though if properly snugged they can aid in stand up shooting.
That said, I know nothing regarding slings for AR's.
Is there on best type for AR's, i.e., single point...?
I see they run from high cost to low and I've no clue which one to get.
Suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks!

I'm happy with Magpul MS series multi-point sling. Usually use as single point (in conjunction with ASP plate), but can quickly convert to two point.
Re: AR Slings - Recommendations
I really like the VTAC (Viking Tactics) adjustable sling. I like it mostly because of the quick adjustment feature.
At rest (standing/walking) I let the sling let out and my AR drapes to the side comfortably.
You can quickly go to a shooting position and pull the sling tab to shorten it to your current position. Which allows you to have a firm hold with pressure for stability. My stability in standing position is many times greater with that adjustment feature.
There is a "wide" version that is slightly padded as well (recommended) and they are built pretty tough.

The VTAC is my preferred sling too - after having tried a boxful of the others. It is simple, easily and quickly adjustable, highly fool resistant*, and tough as nails.Estand wrote:I really like the VTAC (Viking Tactics) adjustable sling. I like it mostly because of the quick adjustment feature.

I use the same system on all my centerfire rifles.

Slight hijack but on topic...
I have the Magpul sling and my rifle sits uncomfortably in front of my hip and knees and is awkward when walking. Do I just need to fiddle with it some more? I have it installed with their ASAP plate.

I like SpecterGear CQB with ERB. I've also used their single point which is ok but not as stable as the CQB.

I also have the VTAC two-point adjustable padded sling. I like it quite a bit. GigAg04 and a couple others raved about a VCAS sling last year and when I saw this VTAC sling at a gun show I got my letters all mixed up and thought I found the one they talked about for a really good price. I didn't discover my confusion until a got home and checked the forum again. I don't really have a use for it yet. I thought it was going to be something needed for some 3-gun competitions, but have since learned not very many or any require one. Since my rifle is ready for HD I do not keep the sling on.

Wow, great information.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!
Re: AR Slings - Recommendations
Just came back from looking at VTAC slings and there's more than one model fitting the description - so could someone provide me the exact model number you use?
I'd hate to order one and find that yes, it's generally fits the one recommended, but it's not the exact one and that could make a world of difference.
Thanks!

The padded one is wider where you want to be.

Re: AR Slings - Recommendations
Estand,
Thanks for the help.
I looked at a video of these slings and the fast adjustment is wonderful.
My conventional slings are a loosen/pull/adjust,tighten and on and on pain, these VTAC's are beautifully designed to avoid all that bother.

Re: AR Slings - Recommendations
I'd call this a Sling for an AR (Assault Rock, that is)....
"Salem, Mass., May 8 — Police Lt. Walter Broderick tests one of two huge slingshots confiscated after boys had broken 60 windows in two local factories. Police said the giant weapons could hurl a five-pound rock more than 200 yards."

Innovative vandals with that rock chunker!
BTW, I found the 5.11 Tactical VTAC 2 Point Padded Sling sling at Optics Planet for the same price as GT, but no tax and free shipment.
Not bad.

Re: AR Slings - Recommendations
That looks very much like mine, but the tabs might be slightly different. This is the one I have and it may be the same one. I can't tell for sure, but the price is $10 less. When I found mine at a gun show the price on it was $35. Maybe it was late in the day or because I was buying some other stuff from the guy, but he let me have it for $30.Estand wrote:the two i have are both the 5.11 Tactical VTAC 2 Point Padded Sling.
