"Legalization" of those who are here illegally today is amnesty. I don't care whether it leads to citizenship now or later, the fact of the matter is that it rewards criminal activity by allowing those who stole from Americans and their resources to keep what they stole and remain here in America.

There is no restitution. There is no penalty of consequence. There is nothing except benefit for them and a gigantic magnet pulling even more illegal immigrants to America.

In the early 1900s when millions of people came through Ellis Island there was no welfare system. You either worked hard and earned a living, assimilating into our culture, learning English and strove to become educated or you starved. Yes, there were groups that provided help but it was voluntary; Churches and other groups, most faith-based, did indeed provide help to those who couldn't help themselves and that's fine. But there was no Section 8 housing, no WIC, no Food Stamps and no free medical care.

You worked or you starved.

Now there is such a system and it is not only abused it is why these people come in the first place. Jose the roofer shoots a nail through his foot and you get the bill for that accident because Jose has no medical insurance or money and his "employer" isn't paying workman's comp insurance either because he's working illegally. Then Jose goes home and screws his wife or girlfriend, she gets pregnant and you get the bill for the prenatal care and birth because he has no money and neither does she, and they both access that care under EMTALA when things get ugly.

In short, the sharp divergence of those who are doing well in America (Professionals, with high degrees, successful small business owners, etc...) and those who have only high-school diploma or school drop outs and those who are here illegally and working in tough labor, like landscaping, day labors and construction workers, and kitchen and restaurant business, all that has introduced a culture of dependency on unemployment and welfare system for the later group.

In addition, elected democrats are only pushing to keep the later group where they are, so they would keep voting for them.
The aging America and the unbalanced and unsustainable Federal budget is real catastrophe in the making for USA.

We hope that US people can understand the scope of the problem and send to DC people who can resolve and fix the Federal System. Or, the US people would rise up in their spring and take back the control.

At the end of the day, the people rulz.

If all immigrants understood what constitutes the Republic as well as you do then it wouldn't be a problem. The problem is we're essentially importing millions of uneducated foreigners who have no appreciation for or understanding of what made this country great and what it takes to keep it that way. Which is exactly why the left wants millions of poor and uneducated people to cross a virtually open border. Unlimited illegal immigration to a welfare state is an act of national suicide.

I only have a HS diploma and I am a working professional making more than 70% of the country. I still do not see the value in a college degree unless you are going into a specific career (doctor, etc.). Maybe I am not a common example, but I worked my way to where I am and educated myself after high school. It is very possible to succeed without a piece of paper from the elite giving you permission. Other than that, I do agree with the basic premise of your post.

Education is the key to higher financial achievements. Even though, I do have uncles who had only intermediate level education, but still they were so successful as businessmen, they raised great generations of theirs.

While I don't disagree with you, it's not the only path to success. It's probably the easiest one.

Problem with all this is, I have been here before. I remember when Regan signed the last amnesty bill. Yeah that was going to fix everything. All the same good reasons, all the same good benefits. Now 30 years later we are back in the same exact spot.

Note, I said education, not formal education, college education, etc. Most college graduates, especially in the Liberal Arts, are mis-educated. College has become a joke in this country. At least 50% of those graduating from college lack the intellectual ability to attend a real college in the first place, and college curriculum's have been dumbed down in accommodation. I've worked with many intelligent and self-educated people who never even finished high school. Many of them quit not because they weren't smart enough to graduate, but because they were simply too intelligent not to realize how stupid high school really is. My wife quit high school and got a GED because she realized that another two years of wasting time there was just too ridiculous to contemplate. My sons were homeschooled and never attended high school at all, and both of them found college easy, graduating with honors. I say this not to brag, merely to to show how superfluous the public school system is, and what little actual education takes place there. Both were nervous about succeeding in college before they went but once there discovered that most of their fellow students were actually quite dumb, and most of those who weren't were sadly uniformed about almost everything. Our high schools, and colleges to a large extent too, are indoctrination centers, not places of education.
