Re: But I didn't see it!
And that's why I'm not worried about it. I've got more pressing issues in my life than running around wetting my pants about some off-the-wall one-in-a-million what if.
If I see the sign, I will abide by the law and not carry there. If I don't see it then I'm not going to go on an Easter egg hunt looking for it.
I'm bemused by the seemingly constant barrage of posts on the order of: "Does anyone know if XYZ place is posted? I went there and turned the place upside down looking for 30.06 signs but didn't see one so I asked the owner/ manager and all I got was a blank look and "huh? What's that?" out of them. I still wasn't sure, so I went back outside and put my gun in the car because I didn't want to risk it."

I was teasing about the thread hijack. Hence theTexasCajun wrote:Sorry. I wasn't trying to hijack the thread. The thought just occurred to me that we might be spending an awful lot of time charging down a rabbit hole for no real good reason.
My suspicion is that even if an LEO showed up because someone was spotted carrying in a properly posted establishment, they'd rather just ask the CHLer to leave vs an actual arrest. That way there's no booking, paperwork, deposition, and/or trial to contend with.
As for the rest, after talking with my neighbor (State Trooper) and the local Wylie officer this morning, I agree. But, according to them both, if the CHL holder starts flapping their gums about "I know my rights", blah, blah, blah, they're gonna outfit them with a nice shiny set of bracelets and give them a free ride to the pokey.

No one is "running around, wetting their pants" that I can see. But this forum exists to talk about issues, scenarios, etc, and to share information. If we don't talk about these issues and settle them in our minds, we may be blind sided when/if it ever happens to us.bdickens wrote:And that's why I'm not worried about it. I wonder what would occur in the city of Austin.

Re: But I didn't see it!
I think this pretty well nails it. The incident that happened at my soon to be ex workplace. The ex employee (and I suspect exCHL holder) was hauled off for disorderly conduct, not a trespass charge. The disorderly conduct came about when he started flapping his trap about 2A rights in front of the officer and several other witnesses. Disordely Conduct will endanger your CHL just a quick and might be much easier in court.RottenApple wrote:I had an interesting experience this morning. I was driving past the Wylie PD and noticed an officer just pulling in. So I pulled in, introduced myself, and asked if he minded if I ask him a few questions related to this subject. He didn't, and so we were off. I asked him about 2 basic scenarios.
1) CHL Holder wants into a store that has a gun buster sign, "no guns" sign, or even no sign at all. The CHL holder's firearm becomes exposed momentarily and someone calls the police. What would you do?
2) CHL holder walks into a store with a valid 30.06 sign but, for whatever reason, doesn't see it. The CHL holder's firearm becomes exposed momentarily and someone calls the police. What would you do?
His answer was the same for both situations:
First, the officer wasn't concerned abut the 30.06 sign in any way shape or form. Valid, invalid, doesn't matter. He said it really isn't an issue to most cops.
Second, the officer didn't really care if the owner/manager asked the CHL holder to leave and s/he refused. The officer just wants everyone to be able to go home safely at the end of the day. So he (the officer) would explain that the owner/manager has requested that s/he (CHL Holder) leave and the officer would escort the CHL holder off the premises.
This (and finally), the officer stated that the only time he (and, in his opinion, most other officers) would actually arrest the CHL holder is if they had a bad attitude, were acting belligerent, or being a nuisance over the whole issue instead of just leaving.
And there we have it. At least from a small town PD officer. I know it's not official, but its kinda cool nonetheless. So stay concealed, be nice, and leave if requested.

It is illegal to discriminate based on a legally protected class such as a disability. So, yes, there are blind CHL holders. Besides, blind people could "see" just not with their eyes. Some blind people have learned to echolocate by clicking their tongue, just like bats. One blind guy can DRIVE a bicycle using echolocation:Cedar Park Dad wrote:Wait there are blind CHL holders?

Many cities have stoplights with audible solenoid switches;Texas Sheepdog wrote:How does he know when the light is red?drjoker wrote:It is illegal to discriminate based on a legally protected class such as a disability. 1. rapid clicks like a machine gun = yellow
2. slower clicks like a clock = green
3. silence = red
You and I won't be able to hear the solenoids, but a blind person with extremely attuned hearing will.

There are such things as blind CHL holders. Look at Denzel from Book of Eli.
We don't need no stinking badges!
