I came back with these:

The Garand is a H&R and the carbine is a Winchester. Neither one looks to me like they've been arsenal refinished.
I'll start researching these soon. Does anyone have any good tips on where to start?
Nice! Join the CMP Forum and post good pics of parts on the M1Garand and the M1 Carbine sub forums. They'll tell you exactly what you have as well as identify any non-USGI parts. I can help you on the M1 carbine if you'd like.Pawpaw wrote:My daughter made a terrible mistake today. She let me go to Ammo Depot without supervision.![]()

And.... get to know G26ster, who was very helpful in helping me get my own M1 Carbine figured out.G26ster wrote:Nice! Thanks! I'll take you up on that. We just have to figure out when we can get together.G26ster wrote:Nice! Join the CMP Forum and post good pics of parts on the M1Garand and the M1 Carbine sub forums. The wood on the whole gun is fairly dirty and somewhat banged up. The rest of it probably just needs cleaned up. The front handguard does have a crack on the left side. It looks like something hit and dented the metal "retainer" at the front of it and started the crack.brhalltx wrote:Nice. I'd say the Garand has been reworked from the color of the front handguard. Are there any importer markings on the barrels?
I've got to get out there with you guys some day....AndyC wrote:Excellent!Pawpaw wrote:My daughter made a terrible mistake today. She let me go to Ammo Depot without supervision.![]()

You do know that Mickey leases keys to his informal range on the banks of the Trinity river just east of Wilmer, right? No facilities whatsoever, but it's one place I can stretch the legs on my FAL out to 400 yards :)
I did know that, but I usually go out to Leonard when I want to shoot for distance (up to 500 yards). It's pretty primitive, but at least they have benches and a porta-potty.AndyC wrote:You do know that Mickey leases keys to his informal range on the banks of the Trinity river just east of Wilmer, right? Very nice! Congratulations!
